I will import weapons from Iran: Venezuela

Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Jorge Ariazza says lifting the UN arms embargo on Iran will allow his country to import weapons legally from Tehran if necessary. He told reporters in the capital Caracas on Friday that the UN arms embargo on Iran had been lifted on October 16, so Venezuela could now buy weapons from Iran at any time.

Noting Venezuela’s friendly relations with Iran, Ariaza said that Caracas will continue to work closely with Tehran in various fields, especially in the energy and automotive industries.

In recent years, the United States government, led by Donald Trump, has sought to reinstate a UN arms embargo on Iran. But the US efforts failed due to opposition from all other member states of the UN Security Council. As a result, on October 17, Security Council resolution No. 2231 automatically lifted the arms embargo on Iran. Parstude
