Commenting on the letter in disrespectful language, BNP Senior Vice President (retired) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said: “I have been involved in BNP politics for the past 29 years. Visible in the letter signed by Rizvi. I feel very humiliated because the vice president of the party has been summoned by an assistant general secretary to apologize in such harsh and offensive language ”.

Hafiz Uddin Ahmed made the remarks at a press conference on Saturday (December 19) in response to a demonstration cause notice issued by BNP.

He said: ‘Before joining BNP, I was elected Member of Parliament three times. I joined the BNP in 1991 as an independent candidate after winning the parliamentary elections. I have been one of the vice presidents of the party for the last 22 years. I feel very humiliated that the Vice President of the party has been summoned by an Assistant Secretary General to apologize in such harsh and offensive language. There have been deviations from protocol and courtesy. Person Ruhul Kabir Rizvi is an educated, devoted and selfless leader, I have a good relationship with him, I did not expect such a letter from him.

In response to the demonstration cause notification allegation, Hafiz Uddin said: “I am making the following statement on the allegation mentioned in the letter while showing due respect to the decision of the party leadership.” I was never given the responsibility of the Barisal Divisional Organizing Team. The offer of the post of convener of the Central Monitoring Committee of the Peasant Nationalist Party could not be accepted due to illness. My current age is 8 years and 2 months, my idea is that the number of people older than me in the Central Committee or Standing Committee of BNP is not more than 4.

He further said that the police arrested me at Dhaka airport before I joined the meeting to demand the release of Begum Khaleda Zia, so I could not go to Barisal. The current government falsely accused me of conspiracy against the state. I don’t know of a senior BNP leader who has made such a serious accusation. In addition to these cases, I have seen a dozen cases regularly over the last ten years.

Rejecting the accusation that he did not attend the party meeting, Major Hafeez said: “I was not invited.” In the past I was invited to Independence Day, Victory Day, and other memorable days associated with great freedom fighters. In the last year and a half, the party officials did not feel the need to invite me to such events. It is understood that there is an active faction in the BNP to keep the freedom fighters at bay. In the last year, I have participated in 6 meetings held at the National Press Club, the organizer is the Nationalist Freedom Fighters Party, the Bangladesh Welfare Party is 2, the BNP is an organization. Famous fighters for the freedom of the country participated in these meetings.

Responding to the accusation that he had criticized the various activities of BNP with malicious intent, he said: “This is a completely false comment.” At a meeting of retired military officers, including freedom fighters and former Air Chiefs of Staff, in the Press Club Auditorium on December 12, I demanded the resignation of Sheikh Hasina and new elections under a neutral government. In the print and electronic media, I did not make any statement against the interests and discipline of the parties.

Complaining that the media misrepresented his statement, Hafeez said: “At present, all print and electronic media are under the control of the ruling government. Here, our statements are deliberately distorted and fragmented.” I have been in politics for 34 years, I never spoke against anyone, not even my opponents. I have spoken out many times against the unelected government of the Awami League, but I have not personally attacked anyone.
