Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the government is working to build a “communication network” throughout the country to ensure the transport of goods and the economic self-sufficiency of the population. He described the Itna-Mithamin-Ashtagram road in Kishoreganj as a gift from the president on the occasion of Mujib.
The prime minister said this while attending the inaugural function of the Itna-Mithamin-Ashtagram highway in the Kishoreganj district via video conference from Ganobhaban on Thursday.
Sheikh Hasina said: ‘We are building a road network throughout Bangladesh to make the communication system … to make the waterways work … we have taken that step. We are increasing the reach of rail communication by reestablishing rail connections and expanding rail lines to more new areas. Increase communication by water, increase communication by road. When the communication system is good, people will have the convenience of transporting goods. There, the economic self-reliance of the people will return and Bangladesh will be the golden Bangladesh without hunger and poverty of the father of the nation’s dream.
In the Kishoreganj district, the construction of this 29.63 km long road from Itna to Ashtagram via Ita in the heart of the haor has cost Tk 84.06 crore. April 21, 2018 President. Abdul Hamid inaugurated the construction of this road. Officials say that the construction of this road has reduced the suffering of the people of Haor and created new jobs. The Itna-Mithamin-Ashtagram road in the middle of the huge body of water in the haor has now become an attractive tourist destination.
In her inaugural address, the Prime Minister said: “I sincerely thank His Excellency the President. If His Excellency the President had not taken this initiative and told us over and over again, then it would have been unthinkable that such a highway could be built in this region. But today we have been able to do this path with your inspiration and your initiative.
The Prime Minister hoped that the people in the Haor area of Kishoreganj would not feel the same pain as before because of this road. He said: “Itna Mithamin Ashtagram”, the people of that region could travel by boat when it was raining in the rainy season. But in the dry season there were not many facilities to travel except walking. That is why there was a saying in the area that you take the rain, it dries. Not today. Now you don’t have to walk on two legs. Now all the cars and horses will run, that arrangement has already been made. ‘
The Prime Minister said that the construction of this road will alleviate the suffering of the people of the region, as road connectivity with Nasirnagar in Brahmanbaria has been established. “We have been able to build a great communication system by building this highway,” he said, noting that people in the area can now reach Dhaka quickly via Nasirnagar or Bhairab.
