Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam said the auction will take place if building materials, permanent or temporary shops, infrastructure, etc. are found on the sidewalks and roads in the area. He also warned that the auction would take place immediately.
Atiqul Islam briefed DNCC officials in a virtual meeting on Friday (September 4).
Simultaneously, mobile cuts and special operations will be carried out in each area of the DNCC as of September 6 to remove illegal installations from sidewalks and roads. At the same time, if any person or organization obstructs this work, the DNCC mayor has instructed that a jail fine be imposed immediately. Atiqul Islam claimed that strict instructions have been given to use the sidewalks and roads only for the use of citizens and to free them from occupation.
At the meeting, Mayor Atiq said that these campaigns should be carried out with the councilors of each neighborhood as representatives of the people. At the same time, if a permanent or temporary workshop or infrastructure is found, it is necessary to take it along with the necessary materials including loader and bulldozer in operation to demolish it immediately. No concessions will be given to anyone involved in the occupation. The obstruction will be penalized. The goods will be auctioned immediately after confiscation. That money will be deposited into the corporation’s fund.
‘It is our responsibility to ensure that city dwellers can move on roads and sidewalks with ease. Then the pavement cannot be occupied. Only sidewalks and roads will belong to the town. Mobile court activities and auctions will start. ‘
The mayor said that to protect city dwellers from mosquitoes, water hyacinths should not be cleaned in government or privately owned water bodies. Measures should also be taken against billboards and illegal advertisers.
