A 45-year-old woman was gang-raped after her husband was tied to a tree in the Sadar upazila village of Magura in Jagla. A case was brought against five unidentified youths at the Sadar police station on Sunday (November 22).
The raped housewife said she came to Magura from Shailkupa in Jhenaidah to work as a laborer with her husband during the rice harvest season every year. Throughout the day, they cut the rice from the homeowner’s land and delivered it home, then spent the night in a hut next to the field.
He said they were resting in a hut in a field in the village of Jagla as usual after work all Saturday. Around 7 p.m., five unidentified young men entered the hut, displayed sharp weapons, and led her husband to the side of the field. They tied her up and raped her in turn. They also threatened not to tell anyone when they returned.
After the incident, the couple of victims complained to local villagers. Following his advice, he appeared at the Magura Sadar police station this afternoon and presented a case.
Joynal Abedin, a police officer in charge of Magura Sadar, said the woman’s medical examination was completed after receiving a written complaint from the police station. Although unknown persons have been charged, the matter is being taken seriously.
He also said that a police operation has already been launched to arrest the accused.
