Ghoraghat Police have revealed the mystery of the death of housewife Guava Begum after recovering her body at Ghoraghat in Dinajpur. Her husband Abdus Salam was arrested and sent to Dinajpur jail for his role in the incident.
The arrested Abdus Salam (28) is the second husband of Guava Begum in Nizam Uddin of Kalikapur village in Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari district. The deceased was identified as 38-year-old Peyara Begum, daughter of the late Miraj Sikder from Abadpur village under Akkelpur upazila from Joypurhat district.
Azim Uddin, OC of Ghoraghat Khana, said at a press conference on Friday morning that Guava Begum’s first husband died leaving a son a few years ago. After living alone for many years, she married Abdus Salam. Abdus Salam used to work for the Walton Company in Fulbari Upazila of Dinajpur. But there were family disturbances in his family due to various problems, including lack of money. Salam left home on a motorcycle with Guava Begum as scheduled to go to Dhaka last Sunday to cope with the shortage. The two sat at the side of the bush by the side of the road and talked about bringing bread to the Sura Masjid area of the Ghoraghat-Hili road at night. At that time, husband Salam strangled his wife Guava Begum and fled.
It added that Munshur Ali, Guava Begum’s brother, filed the case on October 5. They arrested the main suspect, Salam, on the basis of intelligence information and family information. When he was later questioned, he pleaded guilty to murder and testified under Section 164 in the court of Dinajpur’s highest judicial magistrate, Ismail Hossain, on Thursday.
