Husband also participated in the torture of a naked housewife in Begumganj: investigation report

The report of the investigation committee formed under the direction of the High Court mentions that the husband of the housewife was also involved in the incident of attempted rape and torture of the housewife in Begumganj of Noakhali. Furthermore, no one, including the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Begumganj Police Station, can avoid liability, according to the report.

The investigative committee formed under the direction of the Superior Court presented its report on Thursday.

Barrister Khandaker Reza-e-Rakib appeared for BTRC in court. Lawyers ZI Khan Panna and Abdullah Al Mamun were also present at the time. On the other hand, Assistant Attorney General Nowroz Russell Chowdhury represented the state.

Later, lawyer Abdullah Al Mamun told reporters: “A three-member investigative committee formed under the direction of the High Court has found negligence in the incident of stripping and torturing a woman in Begumganj, Noakhali.” The investigation report was presented to the court on Thursday after it reached the Supreme Court registry office.

According to the report, the woman’s husband was involved in the incident. He had no contact with his wife for the past 10-12 years. But he came into contact with the woman 5-6 days before the incident. According to the report, the local ASP, the Begumganj OC police station, the local president, members, and chowkidar were negligent in sexually abusing the woman.

Therefore, the report has recommended taking action against stakeholders, including ASP, OC, local president, members, and watchers. The court has set a November 29 hearing on the matter after presenting the investigation report in the corresponding Superior Court court on Thursday.

It is worth mentioning that on September 2, the housewife was stripped and tortured in Begumganj, Noakhali. More than a month after the incident, the video of the torture went viral on Facebook at noon on October 4. Two cases were filed the same night.

Later, when the news was published in various media, the Supreme Court lawyers ZI Khan Panna and Abdullah Al Mamun brought it to the attention of the High Court.
