In a world of scarcity, you had to eat three meals a day. Life went on with the daily work. That Selim Khan has become a banana with swollen fingers under political auspices. He has built a ten-story house, a million rupee-worth flat, and a mountain of wealth. He has invested millions of rupees in the film. He has used Ismail Hossain Samrat, the now-ousted president of the Dhaka South Juba League, as a tool to change his destiny. Selim has owned these assets for more than a decade as an accessory to the casino business and the emperor’s extortion. He also became the president of Laxmipur Model Union Parishad No. 10 in Chandpur, the people’s home.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into Selim Khan’s alleged illicit achievements. Ataur Rahman, deputy director of ACC, is investigating the allegation. There are allegations that Selim Khan started producing movies to legalize the illegally earned million rupees. It has invested Rs 15 crore to Rs 20 crore in the film through its production company Shapla Media. The ACC’s investigation found no legitimate source for the money invested in the film.

Apart from this, the ACC investigation has found evidence that Selim Khan has real and personal property worth around Tk 21 crore. These include a four-story house in the capital’s Kakrail, a 10-story house in Fatulla in Narayanganj, a flat in Kakrail, two private cars, and four and a half acres of land in the capital, Dhaka and Chandpur. The ACC’s investigation has revealed that these assets were made in his own name and in the name of his family members.

On September 20, ACC Investigative Officer Ataur Rahman Sarkar sent a notice to Selim Khan and his wife Shahanara Begum requesting an account of their assets.

A senior ACC official told Kaler Kanth: “After checking various documents, including Selim Khan’s income tax return, it was found that his family expense account was 34 lakh Tk, 7,800. His total income, including salary allowance and loan received as union council chairman, was 61 lakh 72 lakhs. Although this amount has been deducted from the accounts obtained by the ACC, Selim Khan’s assets of 20 crore Tk 69 lakh 70,575 remain, which have no valid sources and records.

According to the ACC investigation, Selim Khan’s real estate includes 4.21 acres of agricultural and non-agricultural land in Chandpur Sadar Upazila, a 10-story house in Fatulla in Narayanganj, a four-story house and a flat in Kakrail in Dhaka. The estimated value of these assets is 15 crore 45 lakh 84,140 rupees. His personal property includes two jeeps, four dredgers, a shotgun, gold trim and furniture worth Rs 3.39 million. Apart from this, the total amount of its movable assets including the commercial capital of Tk 2 crore 47 lakh 19,245 has been taken as Tk 5 crore 50 lakh 97,845.

According to various documents, Selim Khan has spent around Tk 15 crore to 20 crore on the production of six films, including ‘Shahenshah’ worth Tk 1.23 crore and ‘Prem Chor’ worth Tk 2.7 crore . A valid source for these funds has not yet been found, ACC sources said.

He is also charged with fraud in the construction of housing for the poor in Guchhgram. There are allegations of irregularities in the construction of 100 one-story buildings in the Guchhgram project in the Bahrira Bazar area of Laxmipur Model Union in Chandpur Sadar and of taking bribes of 10,000 to 15,000 tak for each house during the award.

Rafi Mohammad, deputy director of ACC’s Comilla district office, launched a campaign on October 31 last year alleging poor work at the Guchhgram project and illegal sand mining. A team led by Nazmus Sadat. During the operation, the ACC records were reviewed and it was found that there were irregularities in the execution of the project. Selim Khan, chairman of the Guchhgram project, has illegally dredged millions of tons of sand from rivers near the project area. This has caused great damage to river erosion in the project area. Evidence was found that 15 houses from the project were washed away by the river at that time. The truth of the bribery transactions is also found in the Guchhgram home adjudication. Selim Khan’s name is also known to be on the list of 200 people, including Samrat, GK Shamim and Langra Khaled, who are being investigated by the ACC for being involved in various illegal businesses, including casinos.

When asked about the allegations, Selim Khan told Kaler Kanth: “Brother, I cannot speak about the ACC allegations at this time. I am busy with my election tomorrow (again the candidate for president in the Union elections Parishad today). If I do any harm, the ACC will investigate the matter. I don’t want to say more than that. ‘
