Sheikh Aminur Rahman HimuRAB-3 arrested a man named Sheikh Aminur Rahman Himu (55) on charges of embezzling around Tk 33 crore out of 400 people in the name of providing work in Brunei. The RAB has identified him as one of the masterminds of human trafficking in Brunei. This trafficking in persons with a false identity as a member of Parliament continued.

Battalion Commander (CO) Lt Col Rakibul Hasan told reporters at the RAB-3 headquarters in Tikatuli, the capital, on Wednesday (September 23) afternoon. RAB-3 Executive Magistrate Palash Kumar Basu was present at the time.

According to the RAB, in 2019, Himu collected fake demand letters on behalf of the company of Mehedi Hasan Bijan, the mastermind of human trafficking in Brunei, and sent 60 people to Brunei. The victims went to Brunei on loan, sold their land and returned to the country on their own. Himur has no recruiting license of his own. She used human trafficking in Brunei using Nazrul International Service and Highway International RL.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, Sheikh Aminur Rahman Himu and his two accomplices Md. Nur Alam (38) and Bablur Rahman (30) were arrested. A search of Himu’s body revealed a foreign pistol and a magazine full of bullets.

RAB-3 (CO) commander Lt. Col. Rakibul Hasan said that many victims of human trafficking in Brunei complained to the RAB-3 office. According to the allegations, Sheikh Aminur Rahman Himu, one of the accomplices of Mehdi Hassan Bijan and Abdullah Al Mamun Apu, was arrested in Brunei. He had been out of the country for a long time and had a long business relationship with Mehdi Hasan Bijan. The arrested Himu Mehdi Hasan used to smuggle human beings from Bangladesh to Brunei illegally according to Bijan’s claim.RAB press conference

He said Himu used to run as a local deputy. In this capacity, he reached out to unemployed youth from different parts of the country and offered them well-paying jobs in Brunei. He used to get between three and four lakhs of rupees from everyone for a job in Brunei. But the expatriates did not find work in Brunei and lived an inhumane life in prison.

The RAB-3 captain further said that the Bangladeshi runner Sheikh Aminur Rahman Himu used to smuggle people into Brunei speaking of different companies. But no such company was found in Brunei.

The RAB official further said that there are about 25,000 Bangladeshi workers in Brunei. A large part of these workers went to Brunei through human trafficking and are currently living inhumane lives. There are some 3,000 Bangladeshi-owned companies registered in Brunei, most of which are nominal. These companies obtained Brunei employment visas by fraud by displaying fake projects and selling them in Bangladesh through brokers. A 20 lakh lakh has been set for going to Brunei, but a worker has to go to Brunei at a cost of around 3-4 lakh rupees.

Lt. Col. Rakibul Hasan said that by law, a worker can stay in Brunei for up to two years. Unable to raise funds for immigration for two years, many did not return to Bangladesh at the end of their visas and are smuggled to Malaysia through the neighboring province of Sarawak for 2,000 Brunei dollars through human trafficking.

He said that currently no visa is issued on behalf of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia. Originally, Brunei is currently used as a route and destination for international human trafficking activities. The recruiting agents, the brokers in Bangladesh, are working together as an organized circle. Its purpose is to demand monthly benefits from workers, physically abuse them, and force them to return home. So that they can bring in more workers this way instead of their work visas.

The RAB official said that the Bangladesh High Commission had asked the Interior Ministry to cancel the passports of seven people, including Mehedi Hasan Bijan, the head of the gang of visa brokers active in Brunei, for various crimes, including deception. and the torture of Bangladeshi workers on foreign soil. Later, by decision of the Interior Ministry, the Passport Department canceled the passports of seven people, including Mehedi Hasan Bijan.

On September 10, victims of human trafficking in Brunei organized a sit-in in front of the National Press Club to demand the arrest of Bangladeshi runner Mehedi Hasan Bijan. There have been 20 cases in the name of Mehedi Hasan Bijan in the country and he is currently in hiding in Bangladesh.

When asked if any high-ranking police officers were involved in the human trafficking ring and what action would be taken against them, the RAB official said that an investigation was underway. If evidence is found, it will be submitted to the law.
