In a message of condolence, the president said: “HT Imam’s role was very important in the great liberation war. He has worked all his life to develop the spirit of independence and the great war of liberation.
“As a government official, he played a leadership role in running the government in the newly independent country.
HT Imam, who was cabinet secretary to the expatriate government during the liberation war, has been the prime minister’s political adviser since 2014.
HT Imam joined the liberation war in 1971 after renouncing his allegiance to Pakistan while serving in the Pakistani government. He also became the first independent Bangladeshi cabinet secretary.
Recalling HT Imam’s “important contribution” in conducting the Awami League elections, Abdul Hamid said that the Bangladesh Awami League lost a dedicated leader in his death.
HT Imam died in the early hours of Thursday while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.
He was 72 years old. He suffered from various diseases of old age, including kidney complications. The president prayed for the forgiveness of the late HT Imam’s soul and conveyed deep condolences to his grieving family.
