Health Minister Zahid Malek has said the government approved the coronavirus vaccine trial conducted by the Chinese company Synovac in Bangladesh. However, it is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving office. Meanwhile, in addition to the discussion, the question has arisen: the vaccine that is still completely unknown, when will Bangladesh receive it, how will he receive it? Welcoming the Health Ministry’s initiative to approve Sinovac, experts say that allowing the vaccine to be tested has increased the country’s chances of receiving the vaccine. At the same time, it is better for the country to have ‘multiple sources’ rather than a single source of vaccine.
Experts say that in the third step, before final approval, the results of the clinical trial are seen by applying the vaccine to the body of many people.
According to sources, the Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) approved the Chinese company Synovac Research and Development Company Limited on July 17 for its clinical trial of vaccines in Bangladesh.
Said the director of BMRC. Mahmud Uz Jahan then told the Bangla Tribune that Mugda Medical College Hospital, Dhaka Medical College Hospital Burn Unit-1, Kurmitola General Hospital, Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital, Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital, Dhaka Medical College Hospital Unit-2 and Dhaka Mahan The vaccine will be tested in the hospital. Over the next 18 months, the International Center for Diarrhea Research ICDDR, BC, will work to test the vaccine in healthcare workers in the country.
According to the Department of Health, 141 vaccines have been developed so far in the world. There are 25 vaccines in the human trial. Of these, three are from China, one from Oxford, one from Modern and one from Pfizer. And it all depends on the outcome of the trial in the third phase. But the whole world is trying, everyone is preparing. Bangladesh is also in that preparation.
The World Health Organization and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) are working on the vaccine.
According to the Health Department, the World Vaccine Summit was held on June 4 to ensure that people around the world come together every time the vaccine arrives. It has been decided that everyone in the world will receive the vaccine equally through the ‘co-vaccine’ facility. In addition, it was decided at the summit that the vaccine would go first to the co-waxing facilities for healthcare workers, law enforcement officers, media personnel, and other doctors working as avant-garde.
The number of ‘raffles’ around the world is three percent. Later there will be those who suffer from other complex diseases and those over 60 years of age. As such, 20 percent of people will get vaccinated. With that in mind, preparations are being made for the vaccine to arrive in 2021.
However, the modalities of this co-financing will be decided at the Gavi council meeting in September. For the first time, around 51 lakh of vaccines will be available as three percent state-of-the-art. In total, 34 million people will receive the vaccine in phases.
For countries that are not economically developed, they buy vaccines from companies like Co-Vax or Gavi, at low prices or for free. However, those countries will get the vaccine after everyone buys.
Experts say the Oxford vaccine is being tested in 30,000 volunteers in the United States, 5,000 in Brazil, and 2,000 in South Africa. Those who volunteer for the trial will receive the vaccine as a priority. They are not giving এমন they will get the vaccine on that basis. Once they get it, other countries will get the vaccine from companies like CoVax or Gavi. Even if we get the Gavi and Co Vaccine vaccine, we will get it later and it will be too late to get it.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Express of Interest (EOI) introduced on July 9. The Co-wax facility and Gavi have already announced that Bangladesh will receive the vaccine. But developed countries will buy the vaccine, and middle-income countries like ours will co-finance themselves. 181 countries of the world are under this co-financing.
However, the Health Department said it had been preparing for the vaccine for the past three months. Stakeholders have already started groundwork in this regard.
Thanking the government for allowing the trial of China’s Synovac vaccine in Bangladesh, former Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Prof. Dr. Nazrul Islam told the Bengali Tribune: “If the situation is good at the trial, then we will take the vaccine.” If it is not good, we will not accept it.
So we also recommend Sinovac’s judgment from the advisory committee. At the same time, if it is ‘good’, then any company in our country can be asked to give a license to ‘produce’. Because if it is produced domestically, we will also get the benefit of a lower price, ”said Professor Nazrul Islam.
Saluting the government for allowing the Sinovac trial, Institute for Pathology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) advisor, Dr. Mushtaq Hossain. He told the Bengali Tribune: ‘Okay. We also want to try other vaccines, which will be effective, so the chances of getting them will increase.
Dr. Mushtaq Hossain further said, “Bangladesh has many options open to obtain the vaccine in principle.”
“Three Chinese companies are in the third phase and two more in the second phase,” he said. They are attempting a trial in Bangladesh in various ways. However, only Synovac was allowed. Bangladesh has completed all activities in Bangladesh Open and Gavi for everyone.
Bangladesh sent a letter to Co-Wax on July 9. Therefore, Bangladesh has created opportunities everywhere. But Tikato will not succeed at all, some will. However, the more we get involved, the more likely we are to get a successful vaccine, ” said Dr. Mushtaq Hossain.
And according to World Health Organization policy, in all countries, those who are the health workers most at risk should be vaccinated at least twice. The Secretary General of the World Health Organization has expressed an attitude against nationalism. No one can live without someone here, so the most vulnerable people in all countries should get vaccinated together and those at risk should get vaccinated together, said Dr. Mushtaq Hossain.
Meanwhile, along with all other countries, Bangladesh will also receive the coronavirus vaccine, said the line director of the Department of Health’s Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Program, Dr. Maryland. Shamsul Haque.
They are involved in the corona vaccine because EPI is primarily concerned with vaccinating children.
When asked if any other country’s trial would take place in Bangladesh, the Health Minister said that eight companies around the world are currently in the final stages of vaccine trials. If companies show interest in conducting a trial in Bangladesh, Bangladesh will consider it.
Meanwhile, in response to a question about Bangladesh’s interest in buying vaccines, Zahid Malek said, ‘Bangladesh will get some vaccines for free in proportion to its per capita income. However, the government will not just sit back and get free vaccinations. The government will not be left behind in the purchase of vaccines.
About 140 countries and companies around the world are trying to make vaccines. Five to six vaccines are in the absolute third stage. Bangladesh applied for the vaccine last July.
Work on vaccines in China, India, Russia and the United States is at an advanced stage. Several companies are also working to manufacture vaccines in Bangladesh.
