When one section of the BNP has gone too far to remove Jamaat from the 20-party alliance, another section of the party has frustrated it; Such a situation has been occurring at BNP for several months. A decision made at the last BNP standing committee meeting last Saturday was reported to have been thwarted. And the accusing finger is raised against a member of the standing committee for this incident.
It is known that following the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the death of several leaders, it was decided that the members of the 20-party alliance would issue separate statements of their positions. The main reason for such a decision was to separate or keep Jamaat out of the BNP program and thus break the alliance and create a new context for greater unity. In a virtual meeting that day, the party’s acting president, Tarique Rahman, agreed on a strategy to keep Jamaat out. In their decision, several members of the standing committee said at the meeting: ‘Alhamdulillah. Then the job is done. ‘ In other words, they are known to have expressed satisfaction with the meeting that day, as the process of separation from Jamaat began.
But on Saturday, March 26, the joint statement of the 20-party alliance was sent to the media. This means that Jamaat is in the alliance led by BNP. The statement was signed by the BNP standing committee member and coordinator of the 20-party alliance Nazrul Islam Khan. Not only that, he sent the statement to the BNP party platform. The BNP is known to have been fighting over the issue for two days. Because almost all the members of the standing committee were upset to see the statement in the media on Sunday. The matter was immediately reported to Tareq Rahman in London. He asked BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and several high-ranking members to resolve the situation by knowing the incident properly. He also told several members that he was completely against the party. Tareq Rahman is known to have raised that question as well while speaking to leaders about who he would trust if senior leaders acted outside of the party’s decision.
Meanwhile, senior leaders in Dhaka expressed their anger over the incident during a telephone conversation on Sunday. Some even say that if the decision of the party’s highest political forum is reversed in this way, what is the benefit of discussion or politics! Several leaders reported the matter to Tarique Rahman and the party’s general secretary, Mirza Fakhrul. However, sources close to him said that Fakhrul was just as shocked and embarrassed as the others.
However, Mirza Fakhrul did not agree to speak to Kaler Kantha on the matter for fear of creating division within the party due to the presence of the secretary general. Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, members of the party’s standing committee, declined to speak for the same reason. However, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, a member of the standing committee, admitted: “It was decided to give separate statements to the 20-party alliance in protest of the killings.” If it happened that way, everyone would post more parties and statements. But Nazrul Bhai may not have been able to organize. On condition of anonymity, another party leader said: ‘Nazrul Islam Khan has some technicalities in that incident. You also have to cope in various ways.
However, Nazrul Islam Khan avoided the question of how the joint statement reached the media outside of the standing committee’s decision. “If the party makes a decision, the party informs the media,” he told Kaler Kantha on Monday night. Personally, I can’t say that. ‘
Asking the opposite question, he said: ‘Was the decision to make a separate statement made within the 20-party alliance? I did not do it. And if he’s on the BNP standing committee, I can’t say that. ‘ After trying at least 10 times in two days on Sunday and Monday, it was possible to speak with Nazrul Islam Khan. He also questioned why journalists write these things with such enthusiasm.
It is known that Nazrul Islam Khan spoke with members of the 20-party alliance and only took their opinion on the statement. He didn’t say anything to anyone separately. Nazrul Islam Khan is known to have made the decision to issue a joint statement alone. Recently, there has been a lot of discussion inside and outside the BNP about its “special weakness” with respect to Jamaat.
The general secretary of the PLD, Redwan Ahmed, a partner of the alliance, told Kaler Kanth: “Nazrul Islam Khan has only called and commented on the statement. We do not know if it is individually or collectively.
Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Secretary General Abdul Halim told Kaler Kanth: “We are aware of the 20 party declaration. Nothing more is known than this.
Although the BNP did not support the strike called by Hefazat, the Jamaat-e-Islami provided moral support. The BNP is also discussing this separate position from Jamaat.
Previously, BNP had decided to run a separate program at a meeting of its standing committee in January, but it turned out to be useless in the end. On January 14, Nazrul Islam Khan suddenly organized a memorial meeting in Dhaka with some allies from the 20-party alliance, including Jamaat. It was learned that there was still a negative reaction in the BNP. Some, however, suspected that Tareq Rahman may have accepted their arrangement. At the meeting held under his presidency, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar referred to Bangabandhu as the architect of independence.
