The Cybercrime Investigation Division of the Unit Against Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested three members of a horrific child pornography gang after an eight-month search based on allegations made by a American teenager. They were arrested from different areas of the capital last Thursday (October 15). The three members of this clique are Borhan Uddin, Abdullah Al Mahmud and Abhi Hossain. They are all students from different private universities.
Last Sunday, the three made confessional statements in court, the sources said.
According to CTTC’s investigation, a young man from Dhaka met a 16-year-old girl in the United States on Instagram a few years ago. After that, the young American from Dhaka seized the friendship opportunity and pressured her to give her pictures of the naked girl. At one point, the girl handed over some photos of her naked. Upon realizing that she was involved in pornography, the teenager reported the matter to the Dhaka CTTC via social media Facebook.
When asked, Ishtiaq Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Digital Forensics, Cybercrime Investigation Department, said the ring used to collect nude photos and videos of local and foreign children and adolescents and provide them to child pornography groups and websites. .
After that, child pornography spread all over the world through the Dark Web. However, research is being done on what kind of economic benefits this cycle has gained from trading in child pornography.
According to CTTC sources, on February 2 of this year, a teenage girl in the United States filed a complaint with them through Facebook and gave an IP number to the department of cybercrime. Officials from the Department of Cyber Crimes searched for the source of the IP number and identified the user of that IP number. At one stage in the operation to catch them, a young man named Borhan, using an IP number, was arrested at a house in North Shahjahanpur on Thursday night.
According to his information, Abdullah Al Mahmud was arrested in Riazbagh under the Rampura and Avi police station in the Pallabi area. Among them, Borhan graduated from a private university with a degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE). The other two are BBA students from two other private universities.
Borhan was the first to deny child pornography after his arrest. A folder was recovered from a computer used by Borhan, where nude photos of 45 local and foreign teenagers were found. Of which there were 3,316 files. There was a folder in the name of the girl in the United States. Borhan’s computer can also be found by logging into various international child pornography websites.
During questioning, Borhan told CTC that he was originally associated with various Instagram-based child pornography groups. Child pornography groups on Instagram are known as ‘off’. From these groups, teens have learned to motivate and collect nude photos. This technique was later used to collect nude adolescent photos and upload them to child pornography groups. A CTTC official said six fake Instagram IDs were recovered while Borhan was in possession, adding that multiple fake email IDs had been recovered.
Borhan used to create fake IDs on Instagram and establish relationships with teenagers at home and abroad by posing as a lesbian woman. At one stage, he collected teen nude videos and images and uploaded them to pornographic website groups and sites.
The documents recovered from her have revealed 13 tips on how to provide nude photos to a teenager online.
CTTC sources said that despite strict surveillance, there is a booming trade in child pornography around the world, primarily through the Dark Web. Nude videos or photos of children or teenagers are uploaded on various websites. The live broadcast is gone too. People from different parts of the world enter these websites spending money. Cryptocurrency bitcoins are commonly used as currency in these cases. These websites can also be accessed by paying dollars online.
The international law enforcement agency Interpol has long been working to identify and arrest members of the child pornography ring. So far, they have identified and arrested more than 10,000 criminals from different countries. Based on information provided by Interpol, the CID arrested three members of the child pornography ring in Dhaka in June 2014, including Tipu Kibria. The group is said to have made porn videos of at least five hundred children at the time and handed them over to the international child pornography network in exchange for money.
