A middle-aged housewife was gang-raped in Lalpur, Natore, for allegedly seeking a bride for her son’s wedding. The police arrested six people and handed them over to the court. The court sent them to jail Wednesday afternoon after accepting their confessions. Earlier on Wednesday (November 18) morning, the Lalpur police arrested them.
Those arrested are Rashedul Islam, 38, son of the late Anar Ali from Fulbari village in Lalpur upazila, Akmal Sardar, 45, son of Safar Sardar from Walia Centerpara village, Rabiul Islam Sarkar, 45, son of the late Lalmiya Sarkar from the village of Walia Aminpara and Lal from the village of Walia Paschimpara. Zillur Rahman, 42, son of Mohammad Rashid Sarkar, Jiban Islam, 25, son of Saddam Hossain from Walia Bazar Para village, Tariqul Islam, 35, son of Abdul Mandal from Walia Paschimpara village and Raihan Fakir, 38 , son of the late Tawfiq Fakir from the village of Dhanaidah in Baraigram upazila.
The officer in charge of the Lalpur Police Station, Selim Roreza, said that a housewife from the Dhanaidah area of neighboring Baraigram Upazila was called on Tuesday to visit the bride in the Fulbari village in Walia Union of Lalpur Upazila for the your son’s wedding. Later that night, between 12 and 14 people took turns raping her in a secluded location in the Amjam Tala area of Walia village.
Subsequently, the victim filed a written rape complaint against a total of 14 persons, including unidentified persons, at the Walia police post. On Wednesday, the investigating officer from the Walia Police Post arrested six defendants.
Lalpur Police Station OC Selim Reza confirmed the incident and said they were not detained for giving confessional statements. The court accepted their statements and sent them to jail.
