The Deputy Commissioner of Police (AC) of the Lalbagh Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detectives (DB), Fazlur Rahman, confirmed the arrest of Masum Sheikh. However, the Araihazar police did not speak out about the arrest of ASI Masum Sheikh.

According to documents in the theft case, a man named Abdul Awal was teaching at a madrasa in Rampura. On September 6, he was in front of the television center in Rampura. So a man named Babu approached the madrasa teacher Awal and told him that he was a rickshaw puller by profession. He does not know how to read. He wants help redeeming 100 Saudi riyals.
At one point in the conversation, Awal asked the man, “Where did you get the riyal (currency)?” In response, Babu said that one of his acquaintances, a cleaner, had picked him up on the Real Road. Believing the words of alleged rickshaw shooter Babu, Awal broke the rial. Later, Babu introduced Haider, a supposed cleaner, to Awal. Haider, a supposed cleaner, later asked Awal, a madrasa teacher, to reimburse him for another 1,060 rials.
Then, Babu and Haider asked Awal to pass in front of the Lehaj Hotel in Rampura. Awal, a tempted madrasa teacher, withdrew five lakh rupees from his bank account in front of the Lohaj hotel to take the rials. Awal explained five lakh rupees to Babu and Haider. Then Babu and Haider delivered the royal call in packages to Awal. At that moment a private car arrived and stopped there. Three people got out of the private car and approached Awal and introduced themselves as DB policemen.
Awal was allegedly forced into a private car and handcuffed by members of the alleged DB police. Three people with DB identity want to know from whom they have collected the real ones, where are the documents. They reported that Awal would be sent to jail with a case.
Awal was threatened with exposing him to the media as an illegal businessman. However, if you pay 10 lakh rupees, you will be released. Awal said he would give as much money as he has as a bank. The alleged DB police team took another three and a half lakhs from Awal’s bank account.
According to the police investigation, the madrasa teacher Awal, who was first caught in the trap of extorting royals with the identity of a rickshaw shooter, was in fact a member of an organized criminal gang. His real name is Anisur Rahman. Shawkat, another member of the scammers, is the alleged cleaner identified by Haider. Those who took money from Awal under the guise of DB police are not DB members. One of them was ASI Masum Sheikh.
The investigating officer in the case, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (AC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) Lalbagh Division Fazlur Rahman told Jugantar on Tuesday that Masum Sheikh and his accomplice were arrested on December 14. During preliminary questioning, they confessed to the robbery.
Fazlur Rahman said that ASI Masum Sheikh had been carrying out various criminal activities, including robbery and kidnapping under the guise of DB police for a long time. An organized criminal gang led by them was committing crimes in Dhaka under the guise of the DB police. Shahid and Masum have been arrested after receiving evidence of their involvement in criminal activities. A pistol, handcuffs and a private car used in the robbery were seized. Under the guise of DB policemen, the members of this criminal gang used to steal in such a way that the victims had no way of understanding that they were actually fake DBs.
