At a press conference at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Tuesday, Yousuf Madani pointed out Junaid Babungari, the new emir of Hifazat, and his uncle Muhibullah Babungari.
Shafi’s eldest son said that although Muhibullah was not in charge of custody, the “alleged” committee formed by the “illegal” council on his call had 22 members of Babungari’s family.
“Furthermore, by appointing 36 members of one of the two political parties and 24 members of the other, Hefazat is being used to implement the agenda of an identified political group and create instability in the country.”
Ahmed Shafi, the supreme leader of Hifazat-e-Islam and longtime head of the Hathazari Madrasa, died on September 18 in Dhaka while he was being treated.
The day before, a section of students protested at the madrassa demanding the release of Shafi and the expulsion of his son Anas Madani, the deputy director of the madrassa.
Due to that conflict, at the Shura Committee meeting on September 18, ‘Shafi’ voluntarily resigned from the post of Director General due to illness.
At that meeting, two teachers, including Shafi’s son, were released. This marked the end of Ahmad Shafi’s long rule in Hathazari Madrasa.
Immediately after that meeting, Ahmed Shafi was sent by ambulance from Madrasa to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. From there they took him to Dhaka and he died the next day.
Later, Hefazat-e-Islami was divided on the question of leadership and Junaid came to the post of Babungari Amir through a partial conference.
In a written statement at the press conference, Shafi’s son Yusuf Madani said: “After the death of the emir, the Shura will appoint a new emir. What is the purpose of dissolving the entire committee and forming a new one? ” So it is necessary to form a new committee after the death of the Secretary General! “
In his words, “The committee formed without taking a decision in the executive committee and in the assembly and without inviting 70 top Hefazat councilors to form a union is completely illegal and unconstitutional.”

Yusuf Madani also commented that the people of this country cannot accept the person who became the Emir of Hifazat after Ahmed Shafi.
He said: “We believe that a pocket committee has been formed through the current Hifazat Syndicate, where the founding leaders of Hifazat, the main supporters of Allama Ahmad Shafi, have been left out.
“This committee has been formed by putting aside those who have had a leadership role in the movement in the past, who have been active, who have risked their lives, who have played a leadership role in ignoring torture in prison, who have ignored the assault case. “
Shafi’s son alleged that Junaid Babungari was “ignoring” the constitution and announcing the names of new members every day alone.
He said: “InshaAllah, a full Hefazat committee will be formed soon after the council is systematically convened. Under the constitution, all district, thana, city and town committees will be constitutionally renewed and the full stewardship committee will be announced through the central council. “
Commenting that Ahmed Shafi’s death “was not normal,” Yusuf said: “Three days before his death, there was hellish violence and destruction in Hathazari. The world has witnessed the vandalism of his office and the rooms of many. Hathazari Madrasa teachers through social media.
“In the last moments of his life, he was not allowed to take much-needed medications, the room was turned off, the furniture was smashed, including the air conditioning fan, treatment was interrupted, the oxygen mask was removed, and delayed his visit to the hospital. “
Ahmed Shafi’s eldest son said: “The grandson of this hundred-year-old scholar held a broken glass around his neck and said, ‘This old man, sign, or I will kill your grandson.’
Yusuf alleged at the press conference that he was forced to resign “with threats and forced signatures.”
He said that the “naive students” of his organization had been “infiltrated by an extremist group.”
Furthermore, the so-called Emir of Hifazat, Junaid Babungari, sitting in front of the Hathazari Madrasa teachers on December 23, said that Hazur had died a natural death. What an extreme lie! We don’t know the language to condemn it. “
The “mystery of the unnatural death” of Shafi was revealed through a judicial investigation and exemplary punishment was demanded for those involved in it, the press conference said.
Yusuf Madani also demanded the arrest of the “real culprits” after investigating the murder case presented by Shafi’s family.
When asked if the new Hifazat committee would be announced, Mufti Faizullah, former Hifazat deputy secretary general, said: “We are moving forward with time. We will announce the new committee after discussing with the best academics in the country.”
Among others, Shafi’s youngest son, Anas Madani, Maulana Salimullah, Moinuddin Ruhi, Ruhul Amin, Delwar Hossain, Abul Hasnat Amini, Abdul Jabbar, Mufti Abduchhattar, Mufti Nasir Uddin and Altaf Hossain were present at the press conference.
