Maulana Mamunul Haque, who participated in the discussion against the sculpture of Bangabandhu, has been appointed secretary of the Dhaka metropolis of Hefazat. Previously, Maulana Abul Hasnat Amini, son of the late Mufti Amini and acting president of the Alliance of Islamic Unity, held the post.

Maulana Junaid Al Habib, the leader of Jamiat Ulama Islam, has become the chairman of the new committee.

Hefazat’s current publicity secretary, Maulana Zakaria Noman Faizi, said in a press release Saturday night.

He said the decision was made at a special meeting at Hathazari Madrasa in Chittagong on December 23 (Wednesday).

During the meeting, Maulana Nurul Islam Jihadi, Senior Naib Ameer of Hifazat, received the post of Secretary General, which was vacated after the death of Allama Nur Hossain Qasemi.

In addition, Maulana Hafeez Tajul Islam was appointed chairman and Maulana Lokman Hakim was appointed secretary of the Chittagong Metropolitan Committee.

The meeting held at Hathazari Madrasa was chaired by Allama Shah Muhibullah Babungari, the organization’s senior adviser and Junaid Babungari’s uncle.

The current Amir Allama Junaid Babungari, Advisor Maulana Noman Faizi, Central Naib Amir Maulana Tajul Islam, Maulana Muhammad Yahya, Mufti Jasim Uddin, Deputy Secretary General Maulana Junaid Al Habib, Maulana Mamunul Haq, Maulana Maulana Habibullah Azadi, Maulana Fazuli Karimasezullah Khaled Saifullah Ayubi and others.

At the meeting, Maulana Ataullah, Naib Amir of the organization, was nominated as Senior Naib Amir, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Fazlul Karim Qasemi, Maulana Shafiq Uddin, Maulana Habibullah Miaji and Maulana Khaled Saifullah Ayubi as Deputy Secretary General.

Additionally, the scope of the organization’s central committee was further increased to 201 members.

By the way, there is already a controversy about the new president and secretary of the Dhaka metropolis of Hefazat.

There has been a kind of pent-up unrest and anger among the leaders and activists of Hifazat-e-Islam by Maulana Junaid Al Habib. They express their anger on social media.

It is known that she left Dhaka and moved to London in 2013 after the tension created by Dhaka’s Motijheel sit-in program. There was also controversy over his speech at a memorial service after the death of Allama Ahmad Shafi.

On the other hand, there is a case of ‘sedition’ against Mamunul Haque for speaking out against the sculpture of the Father of the Bangabandhu Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He said in the BMA Bhaban auditorium on Topkhana Road in the capital on November 13 that those who placed statues in the name of Bangabandhu’s sculpture could not be Bangabandhu’s children. Stop placing this statue. If our request is not accepted, Shapla Chattar will reestablish with the people of Touhidi.

Hefazat’s deputy general secretary, Maulana Mamunul Haque, faced widespread criticism across the country for the incident. He was supposed to join the mahfil on November 26 in Hathazari. But the Awami League of Chittagong Metropolitan District and its affiliates organized protests and demonstrations to prevent Mamunul Haque from arriving in Chittagong.

Mamunul Haque did not appear on the mahfil stage that day due to severe obstruction by various political parties and organizations in the streets and under pressure from the administration. Furthermore, various organizations, including the Chhatra League, have announced that they will oppose him in different parts of the country.
