The girl’s home is in Palashbari village of Birampur municipality of Dinajpur. Early in the morning, Father Abdul Hadi (55) cycled home to see his daughter. On the way back, he was crushed by a truck while crossing the street and died on the spot. Police seized the truck in the incident. However, the driver and his accomplice escaped.
The accident took place at the Battali intersection of Birampur College Bazar on the Dinajpur-Dhaka highway around 7 am on Friday. Abdul Hadi is the son of Abdus Sobhan of Parbhabanipur (Munsipara) mahalla of Birampur Township.
According to police and local sources, Abdul Hadi was arriving in the city of Birampur from his daughter’s home by bicycle this morning. On the way, he was crushed under a moving truck loaded with potatoes while crossing the street at the intersection of Battali and College Bazar. The body was split in two and he was killed on the spot. The locals subsequently seized the truck and reported it to the police. Upon receiving the news, the police arrived, rescued the truck and took it to the police station.
When asked about this, the Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Birampur police station, Moniruzzaman Monir, said: “Abdul Hadi, a cyclist, was killed when he was hit by a truck while crossing the street.” The truck was impounded. Hadi’s body was recovered and sent to the morgue of the Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Legal action will be taken if any complaint is received from the family of the deceased.
