Amid the extensive discussions, the managing director of online product retailer ‘Evali’ attended a virtual press conference on Thursday.
“As far as I am aware of the law and the guidelines I have received from my lawyers, we are not doing business in violation of any section of the law in Bangladesh,” he said.
“But we may have made a small mistake. A child does not come to earth to learn all that. You cannot do business by learning everything. We are also learning that if there is a mistake, we will learn it and correct it,” Russell said.
The Bangladesh Bank’s Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) suspended transactions with Evali’s chairman, Shamima Nasrin, and managing director, Russell Bank, after allegations of fraud emerged.

Evali authorities later said that they were unable to deliver the products to customers who were unable to communicate with sellers due to the government seizing bank accounts. However, at the moment, efforts are being made to supply the merchandise (cash on delivery), as well as the old orders, “as much as possible”.
At the press conference, a reporter asked: “How will ‘Evely’ fulfill the responsibility of buyers who have given money to ‘Evely’ but are not getting the product?”

Russell said: “We believe that we can deliver the product to buyers doing business as normal. If we can’t do that, we have a plan for how to meet those obligations. But we won’t have to implement that plan. ”
He hopes that their bank account will be opened soon and they can do business as before.
At the press conference, a reporter asked if they were doing multi-level marketing (MLM) on the condition that they buy that product from Avali again with ease as a 200 percent refund.
“We have nothing in common with the MLM business,” Russell said. Do we encourage someone to sell something? What is done in the MLM business. We buy and sell products.
“No one can make any claims against us except for delayed delivery of merchandise. It will be nice if we are late. And we have a problem with refunds. This problem was due to some complexity of information technology. Everything will be fine. “
