Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary MM Imrul Kayes said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina welcomed the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka when she arrived at the prime minister’s office at 11:15 am on Saturday.
Before the start of the bilateral meeting, a private meeting was held between the two heads of government. Subsequently, in his presence, the signing of several memorandums of understanding for cooperation in various fields is expected.
Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen had previously said that the Sri Lanka-Bangladesh summit would focus on mutual cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, agriculture, coastal transport, education and information technology.
The Sri Lankan prime minister arrived in Dhaka on Friday morning on a two-day visit. In the afternoon, he addressed a function organized in the National Parade Ground to mark the centenary of Bangabandhu’s birth and the golden jubilee of independence.
On the way to Dhaka from Colombo, Rajapaksa tweeted that he would like to work with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and his government to further strengthen bilateral ties so that the two countries can benefit.
Prime Minister Rajapaksa is accompanied by a 26-member delegation that includes the Sri Lankan Minister of Education, the Minister of State for Regional Cooperation, the Minister of State for Textiles and Textiles, the Minister of State for Rural Housing and Housing Materials , the Minister of State for Finance and government officials.
