Hamas, the ruling party in the besieged Gaza Strip, has announced that it will reach an agreement with Israel after more than three weeks of cross-border attacks. The deal was negotiated by Qatar, Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar said on Monday (August 31). He said that talks with Qatari Ambassador Mohammed al-Emadi had reached an agreement to end the recent tensions and (Israeli) aggression against our people. French news agency AFP released the information.

Israel has been attacking the Gaza Strip almost every day since August 8. They claim that these attacks were carried out in retaliation for the regular shipment of balloons filled with explosives from the Gaza Strip into the interior of Israel and the rocket attacks. The Israeli authorities claim that these balloons have started more than 400 fires in the country in recent days.

An Egyptian delegation has contacted the two parties to resolve border tensions. Qatari Ambassador Mohammad Al Emadi joined the discussion. He met with Hamas leaders after speaking with Israeli officials in Tel Aviv.

A Hamas source told AFP that the balloon attacks and other attacks on Israel would come to a complete stop. In return, oil supplies to the 13-year-old Gaza Strip will resume on Tuesday and the power plant will resume operations. Israel also agreed to take further steps to reduce unemployment in Gaza by more than 50 percent. However, if there is any obstruction in the implementation of these measures, there is a risk that tensions will rise again.

Israel and Hamas first agreed to a ceasefire in November 2016, mediated by oil-rich Qatar. Although it was spread several times, it later became ineffective as Israeli aggression intensified.

Previously, in 2008, 2012, and 2014, Hamas was involved in all-out wars with Israel. And the mediators try to stop another new war.
