The RAB cordoned off Haji Selim’s home on Devdas Lane in Swarighat around 12:30 pm Monday after Irfan and his associates were “beaten” by a naval officer. Irfan and his bodyguard Mohammad Zahid were arrested on the fourth floor of the building.

Irfan Selim used to live on the third and fourth floors of the nine-story white building, RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam said in the afternoon.

“There is no license for firearms. And walkie-talkies are also illegal, these black walkie-talkies can only be used by members of law enforcement agencies. “

Irfan and his bodyguard Zahid were later sentenced to six months and a year in prison by a mobile court led by Sarwar Alam for drinking and using walkie-talkies.

In the evening, the director of the RAB’s media and law branch, Ashiq Billah, told reporters that in addition to the mobile court ruling, two cases would be brought against the two under the Guns and Narcotics Act.

Later, Irfan and his bodyguards were taken out of the building around 8:15 pm and taken to the RAB-3 office in Tikatuli. He was also interrogated there around one in the morning.

‘Torture Center’ in Chawkbazar

During the raid on the Devidas Lane building, they stormed the Ashik Tower in Chawkbazar and found Irfan’s ‘torture center’, RAB said.

Magistrate Sarwar Alam told reporters that, according to information provided by Irfan, the raid took place in a room on the roof of the 16-story building. There are hockey sticks, handcuffs, knives, thick rope, towels, electric shock cables and other equipment and yaba equipment.

“Irfan used to bring different people here and torture them.”

Then I went to the building and saw that there is a Medina Developer Company office on the 18th floor. The RAB members included various weapons and equipment seized from a large room on one side of the roof.

In addition to Irfan Selim, Haji Selim’s protocol officer AB Siddique Dipu, Irfan’s bodyguard, Mohammad Zahid, and driver Mizanur Rahman, were also named in the case filed at the Dhanmondi police station on Monday.

The plaintiff in the case, Wasif Ahmed Khan, accused them of illegally blocking the road and hitting, injuring and threatening to kill a government official.

According to the statement in the case, Lieutenant Wasif was riding a motorcycle to Kalabagan with his wife around 8:15 pm on Sunday. In front of LabAid Hospital, a black Land Rover (Dhaka Metro-G-11-5736) with an MP sticker hit his motorcycle from behind.

As soon as Wasif and his wife managed to get off the motorcycle, Zahid, Dipu and two or three other unidentified people got out of the car and began to ‘beat’ them with ‘obscene language’.

The lawsuit also alleges that Lieutenant Wasif and his wife were threatened to “kidnap and kill”.

Following the incident, an eyewitness recorded Lieutenant Wasif’s statement on his mobile phone, which has already been posted on Facebook. There, the naval officer was heard saying with a bloody face that he had been beaten even after introducing himself and that he had also ‘touched’ his wife.

Police arrested Mizanur, the driver of the vehicle, shortly after the case was recorded. In a few hours, RAB launched an operation around Haji Selim’s home in Soarighat.

Haji Selim and his wife were not seen.

During the operation, Lt. Col. Ashiq Billah, director of the RAB’s law and media branch, arrested Irfan and his bodyguard from the building and recovered firearms, alcohol, walkie-talkies and handcuffs.

When asked where MP Haji Selim was, Ashik Billah told bdnews24.com: “Haji Selim is not at home. It is known that he went to the hospital with his wife before the operation.”

However, the RAB official could not say which doctor he went to.

Haji Selim’s mobile phone was called more than once for comment, but he did not respond. The mobile phone of the Awami League deputy’s personal assistant was called, but no response was received.

Haji Selim, former deputy secretary of the Dhaka Metropolis of the Awami League, is a member of parliament for the Dhaka-6 constituency for the third term.

Haji Selim, a well-known critic from Old Dhaka, joined the Awami League from BNP and was elected Member of Parliament for the first time in this area in the 1996 elections. Although he lost to the former BNP candidate from Dhaka-6 Abul Hasnat, at that time, lost the 2001 elections to BNP candidate Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu.

After reorganizing the boundaries of the parliamentary constituency, Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, the then secretary for health and population affairs of the Awami League, lost to Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu of BNP in the 2008 elections.

Haji Selim lost to Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin as an independent candidate in the 2014 elections outside of BNP.

Then in 2016, he regained the ship symbol and lost to the National Unity Front candidate in the Dhaka-6 constituency and was elected a Member of Parliament.

Educated through the ninth grade, Haji Selim’s business organization, Medina Group, does business in various sectors, including housing, cement, water tanks, pumps, shipping.

The managing director of the company is Haji Selim, the president is his wife Begum Gulshan R Selim, the eldest son, Mohammad Solaiman Selim, is the deputy managing director, the other two sons are Irfan Selim, Mohammad Salman Selim and a daughter, Jarin Chowdhury Selim, is the director of the company.
