After Haji Selim’s land was reoccupied, the workers at the Moulvibazar corporate branch of the state bank in Old Dhaka are now scared. Deputy General Manager (AGM) Vaishnav Das Mandal, who is in charge of the branch, said he was not going to take possession of the land to avoid a fight.

No statement was received from Haji Selim regarding the occupation of the land. However, his lawyer claimed, as before, that the land was bought by Haji Selim, who is in the name of his wife Gulshanara Begum.

The first Agrani Bank branch opened by the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in independent Bangladesh was on this land. Haji Selim, a deputy from the Awami League, has been occupying 20th century lands in the Dhaka-6 constituency since 2003, although there is a pending case against him.

Local ward councilor Irfan Selim, the son of Haji Selim, was arrested on October 26 for beating a naval officer. The RAB raided Haji Selim’s home that day, but did not find him.

A few days later, the AGM of Agrani Bank, Vaishnav Das Mandal, came with people, occupied the place and demolished the old ruined building. Construction materials were also brought in to begin work on the new building by erecting a wall.

Haji Selim’s place in Agrani Bank was vacated

He went to the site on Sunday before a month had passed and discovered that there were none of the building materials. Upon removal, a sign stating ownership of Gulshanara Begum is hung there.

According to the locals, Haji Selim occupied the place a few days ago and set up a guard. As a result, bank officials and employees cannot huddle on the ground.

Rabiul Islam, a local businessman, told bdnews24.com: “We have been hearing about this branch of Agrani Bank for a long time.

“A few days ago, the people of Agrani Bank took possession. A few days ago, the people of Haji Selim took possession again and hung up a sign.”

An official from the Moulvibazar branch of the Agrani Bank told bdnews24.com: “We are suffering from insecurity. Now we are afraid to do it alone. The authorities of the Agrani Bank have produced a general diary at the Chawkbazar police station after the incident. A letter has also been sent to RAB. “

When asked, Moulvibazar branch manager Vaishnav Mandal told bdnews24.com on Sunday: “Haji Selim’s men have taken over again. The walls that we build here have also been demolished. Now your people are watching.

“There will be a fight if we are busy, so we have sought the cooperation of law enforcement agencies, but have not yet received a response.”

When asked what to do next, the bank’s top official said: “We have senior officials in the bank, we will work according to your instructions. I will do what they tell me to do.”

According to him, before independence, this place was a branch of the Pakistani Habib Bank. After independence, it was owned by the Agrani Bank.

“Suddenly, in 2003, some people presented documents claiming ownership of the land. They tell us to leave and we have to go.”

Agrani Bank then filed a case in court, which has yet to be resolved. The Agrani Bank authorities have approached the court seeking a permanent ban on the occupants of the land, but a decision has yet to be made.

Gulshanara’s lawyer, Shri Pran Nath, told bdnews24.com that the land was bought by Haji Selim.

“The place was rented by Habib Bank to someone. Agrani Bank has leased to Habib Bank. After the death of the original owner, Haji Sahib bought it from the heirs on behalf of his wife. Namjari of this land, Kharij, all in the name of Haji Sahib’s wife. “
