Haji Selim reclaimed land reclaimed by Agrani Bank

Haji SelimThe state-owned Agrani Bank was unable to keep the evicted lands of MP Haji Mohammad Selim for hundreds of millions of rupees. Construction materials have been removed from the bank and a sign saying that it is owned by Haji Selim’s wife has been hung on the ground. The gate to the border wall is closed. Meanwhile, bank officials do not go to that land out of fear. According to the bank, the Haji Selim people have also removed the building materials kept by Agrani Bank for the construction of the facility after regaining their possession.

Following this incident, the Agrani Bank authorities filed a general diary at the Chawkbazar police station on 5 November. A letter has also been sent to the RAB in this regard.

It is known that after the partition of the country in 1947, the land belonged to Habib Bank at that time. After independence in 1971, Habib Bank and Commerce Bank merged to form Agrani Bank. And the bank branch is held there. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman opened this branch. There he also had a bank account.

Later, the bank’s branch was moved to a nearby building as there was no space on the land. Initiatives were taken to construct new buildings on this site.

Signs have been hung after the rescue.The bank’s operations came to a standstill in March this year after a coronavirus infection. Haji Selim’s men seized the opportunity to take the place. They demolished the old building and raised the boundary wall.

Vaishnav Das Mandal, the deputy general manager in charge of the branch, filed a written complaint with the Chawkbazar police station on 20 May. He also filed a complaint with RAB-3 on June 15.

Although no action was taken by law enforcement at the time, the land was retaken on October 26, the day after the arrest of Irfan Selim, Haji Selim’s son, in a case of beating a naval officer. However, on the night of November 4, Haji Selim’s men again occupied the land, bank officials said. However, no bank official agreed to speak to the media about his own identity.

Meanwhile, the people of Haji Selim have closed the entrance by tearing down the border wall built by the bank. A sign has been hung on the door. It contains the name of Haji Selim’s wife, Gulshanara Begum, as the owner of the land.
