Pakistan’s anti-terror court sentenced Hafiz Saeed, accused of planning the 2008 terrorist attack on a five-star hotel in Mumbai, India, to 10 years in prison in two terrorism cases. The Lashkar-e-Taiba leader, who has already been convicted in multiple cases, has been convicted in two more cases.

This is not the first time that Hafiz Saeed has been imprisoned. In early February, a Pakistani court sentenced Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafeez and his associates to 11 years in prison on charges of financing terrorist activities. He is currently housed in Kot Lakhpat prison in Lahore.

An anti-terror court in Lahore jailed four Jamaat-ud-Dawa leaders, including Hafeez, on Thursday. Apart from Hafeez, two of his accomplices, Zafar Iqbal and Yahya Mujahid, have been sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison. Hafiz’s brother-in-law, Abdul Rahman Makki, has also been sentenced to six months in jail.

Hafiz Saeed was arrested in July 2019 on charges of financing a terrorist attack and was sent to a jail in Lahore. Pakistan arrested Imran Khan a few days before his visit to Washington. The United States and the United Nations have called Hafiz Saeed an “international militant.”

Hafiz Saeed, founder of the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba and a terrorist identified by the United States, is believed to be the main culprit in the Mumbai attacks. The terrorist attack of November 26, 2006 killed 16 people. At that time, 10 Pakistani terrorists disabled the city of Mumbai for four days.

However, Hafiz Saeed has denied any involvement in the attack and has claimed that his network has no connection to the militant group. India claims that Hafiz Saeed was allowed to move safely in Pakistan for so many years, despite evidence that he was involved in the Mumbai attacks.

Pakistan filed a complaint against Hafiz Saeed in early July last year under mounting pressure, including terrorist financing. In early 2016, Pakistan arrested him along with four accomplices. But they were released after about 11 months in detention due to a judicial review.
