Hafeez said the letter humiliated him and that he was considering resigning. But after you answer, you will make the next decision after seeing what the top leadership decides.
Recently, two BNP vice presidents, Hafiz Uddin and Shawkat Mahmud, were asked to show reasons for breaking party discipline.
Hafeez appeared before reporters at his home in Banani on Saturday, two days after Shawkat Mahmood sent his reply to the party’s central office in Naya Paltan.
Hafiz, a six-time deputy from Bhola’s Lalmohan-Tamjuddin constituency, was a minister in the Khaleda Zia government in 2001.
This freedom fighter with the title of Bir Bikram is a retired Army Major. He was also famous in the country as a footballer.
Hafeez said: “As a war-wounded, award-winning freedom fighter, I was shocked to receive a notice to show cause on Victory Day in Victory month.
“My humble request is that my statement be presented to the members of the Standing Committee. If I am found guilty in the context of the statement, I am willing to accept any punishment. I always respect the party leadership ”.
‘Courtesy exception in Rizvi’s letter’
BNP Deputy Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi signed the notice stating that he had found “many errors” in the notice.
He said: “I have been involved in BNP politics for the past 29 years. The date of my incorporation, the date of my appointment as vice president, the spelling of my name and many other errors are visible in the letter signed by Rizvi.”
“I have been one of the party vice presidents for 22 years. I feel very humiliated that the party vice president was summoned by an Assistant Secretary General (albeit not ordained) to apologize in such harsh and offensive language. There has been deviations from protocol and courtesy. Person Ruhul Kabir Rizvi is an educated, devoted and selfless leader, with whom I have a good relationship. I did not expect such a letter from him. “
Indications of resignation
Hafiz said: “All my military friends that I have worked with, and all my personal friends who are not in politics, say that you resign today. I also thought the same.
“My dear leaders and activists have crossed the river two and a half miles from here in motorboats, boats and across the Meghna River and have asked us not to resign, not to withdraw.
“I did not resign today at their request. I want to see if my explanation is satisfactory for them (leaders). Then I will make the following decision.”
Hafeez was accompanied by Zakir Hossain, Shahadat Hossain, Babul Panchayat, Kabir Hawlader and Omar Farooq Rintu of the Upazilas Lalmohan and Tajumuddin of Bhola.
Board complaints
Demanding the party council, Hafeez said: “As a petty BNP activist, I would like to make some recommendations. The party’s national council should be convened by March 2021 ”.
He demanded the formation of a national standing committee, a central executive committee, and a committee of allied organizations through a council vote.
He also demanded an investigation into allegations of committee trading and nomination trading at various levels of the party.
Hafeez said: “Recently, in my constituency, the central leaders of Chhatra Dal have formed a committee in Dhaka. I do not know the convener. Chhatra League workers also have a place on this committee. My recommendation was not considered. No response was received by letter to the president and the acting secretary general ”.
‘Stop flattery’
Addressing the leaders and workers, Hafeez said: “I ask BNP leaders and workers to think, why is the BNP people’s party out of power today? Who is responsible for this?
“Think, think without being deaf and dumb. Contribute to the good of the team. Suggest to the team what to do. Don’t just finish the job with compliments. “
He said: “I am a freedom fighter. My leader Ziaur Rahman has said that the country is bigger than the party. My country is also the biggest for me ”.
‘Freedom fighters in the party’
Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said: “In the past, I was invited to Independence Day, Victory Day and other memorable days associated with the great liberation war.” For the past year and a half, party officials have not felt the need to call me to these kinds of events. It is understood that there is an active faction in the BNP to keep the freedom fighters at bay.
“In the last year I have participated in six meetings held at the Press Club, two of which are organized by the Nationalist Party, two by the Bangladesh Kalyan Party and one by the BNP. Famous fighters for the freedom of the country participated in this meeting ”.
‘Ready’ for the move
Hafeez said: “I want democracy to come to this country. I will always be ready for any fight for democracy and good governance, for the restoration of human dignity, for the restoration of the people’s right to vote, for the restoration of democratic rights, for the restoration of freedom of expression and for the overthrow of this illegitimate government.
“I am a petty political activist. If BNP leaders and activists, especially students, take to the streets, the future of the party will be very bright tomorrow. “
He said, “Why don’t you go out into the streets? I’ve thought a lot. Party leaders should review why the BNP, such a popular party, gets 80 percent of the vote when it comes to power, but why not 100 people on the streets. It should be thought about.
“I have also asked many workers. They say that if I get off, I will take the bullet and who will see my family? What is the benefit for us? I will give my life, others will benefit, perhaps not for these reasons. However, I will call on all BNP leaders and workers to call for an anti-government movement in the coming days. Whoever calls will come and overthrow this government. “
In a five-page response, Hafeez wrote: “I did not make any disrespectful or disrespectful comments directed at the top BNP leaders. The martyred president Ziaur Rahman is a symbol of honesty and patriotism. I fought for my life as an army officer under his command in the liberation war, I was wounded in the war that was coming. On December 14, after a deadly one-day battle against the Pak army, I captured the city of Sylhet under the leadership of Ziaur Rahman.
“On this day of the year 2020, my team has made me stand on the fence. The content of the letter has been communicated to the electronic media before sending me the notice. This has surprised my staff.”
Stating that he has fulfilled his responsibilities correctly, Hafeez wrote: “This is not about disrespecting the party chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia. I have never insulted any member of Zia’s family, nor will I in the future. Even if I quit politics, I will cherish the ideology of Bangladeshi nationalism in my heart. “
