The mayor of the municipality of Basurhat, Abdul Quader Mirza, has demanded a fair trial for the murder of journalist Burhan Uddin Muzakkir, the identification of the real killers and the punishment of the law. Journalist Burhan Uddin Muzakkir was shot dead in a clash between two rival Awami League groups.
Quader Mirza said: “I cannot go to journalist Muzakkir’s janaza in Chaprashir Hat at 8pm on Sunday, there is a weapons drill there.” Guns are pointed at me from all sides. I will not go to the janaza and my followers are also prohibited from going.
Responding to a question from reporters on Sunday afternoon, he said that the journalist Muzakki had gone to Chaprashirhat to perform his professional duties. But why should they shoot him? Although Muzaffarnagar is not part of my party, I demand exemplary action against the perpetrators. If I can prove that I am involved in the murder in the intelligence investigation report, let me stand trial for this responsibility as well.
Quader Mirza told reporters that he had already filed a GD at the Kompaniganj police station for fear of being hanged in connection with the murder.
He further said that Ekram Chowdhury had sent two groups led by his son Sabab Chowdhury, PS Sunil Chowdhury with weapons to Chaprashirhat last Friday according to the above plan. They wanted a corpse, they shot and killed an innocent informant like Muzakkir for not being able to kill me.
He said that the Awami League was not responsible for the murder of journalist Muzakki. The responsibility lies with the leaders of the fight against politics and looting and the Companiganj OC Jahed police station and the inspector (investigation) Rabiul Haque. Bariul Haque was on duty in Chaprashirhat that day. The entire administration is held hostage to Ekram Chowdhury’s money and opposes me. These incidents are happening with the help of Badal, Shaheen, the president of Razzak in collaboration with the police administration and the journalist Muzakkir has been assassinated for deliberately imposing responsibility on me.
Quader Mirza said, the police are spreading heinous lies against me through the news. The Noakhali Additional Superintendent of Police also treated me badly. I have informed our leader Obaidul Quader on all these matters. I have suspended all my previous programs following the instructions of the People’s Leader Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader to investigate all my complaints and take action. But after realizing that there was a conspiracy to hold me accountable for the murder of journalist Muzakki, I gave my protest program and human chain to demand justice for Muzakki’s murder.
In this regard, we have announced the milad program and mourning meeting for the forgiveness of the soul of journalist Muzakkir in Basurhat Rupali Chattar at 2.30 pm on Monday.
