Two cases have been registered against Irfan Selim, a dismissed councilor from the 30th district of Dhaka South City Corporation, and his bodyguard Zahidul Islam at the Chawkbazar police station, charged with carrying firearms and possession of drugs.

At the RAPID Action Battalion (RAB) headquarters on Tuesday, the director of the RAB’s media and law branch, Lt. Colonel Ashiq Billah gave this information at the press conference.

He said the RAB raided Irfan’s home for allegedly assaulting a naval officer. He had intelligence that he had firearms and illegal drugs.

In addition to firearms, Wakitki phones were found in his home, he said.

“We learned that he used the walkie-talkie illegally to extort money and establish dominance in the area,” he said. He also used illegal firearms to demonstrate security and personal strength.

Irfan was sentenced yesterday to a year and a half in prison by a RAB mobile court for illegal possession of walkie-talkies and drugs.
