This poem by the poet Shamsur Rahman came true in the life of the Bengali nation on this day in 1971. Bengal’s independence came on December 16 in exchange for a sea of blood 49 years ago. This great victory was achieved at the end of 9 months of war in exchange for the blood of millions of heroic freedom fighters, the tears of children without husbands, the murder of the best intellectual children in the country and the unlimited sacrifice of heroines. On this day, 49 years ago, the rise of independent sovereign Bangladesh on the world map brought the Bengali nation the direction of self-identity. Today, the grateful nation will remember the country’s heroic children with reverent pain. Crowds will descend on the National Monument in Savar. People from all over the country, including the capital Dhaka, will take part in the Victory Day celebrations.
This is the 50th day of victory after 49 years of victory. This Victory Day has come in a different context. Bangladesh will celebrate the centenary of the birth of the nation’s father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 2020 and the Golden Jubilee of independence in 2021. National Memorial in Savar ready to pay tribute to the best children in the nation.
