‘Golden Monir’ held 18 days in three cases

Dhaka: A Dhaka court awarded Monir Hossain, alias Golden Monir, a 16-day pretrial detention in three cases brought against him.

On Sunday (November 22), two judges of the Dhaka Metropolitan Court of First Instance granted the remand in separate orders.

In two cases under the Weapons and Special Powers Act, the Deputy Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abubakar Siddique granted Monir a preventive detention of 14 days for seven days. However, the court also ordered that he remain in preventive detention for seven days, as the content of the two cases was the same.

On the other hand, the metropolitan magistrate Masud-ur-Rahman granted a preventive detention of four days in a drug case. However, the return will be effective separately.

On behalf of the state, Metropolitan Prosecutor Abdullah Abu heard the request for preventive detention. The lawyer Ehsanul Haque Samaji requested the cancellation of the preventive detention. After the hearing, the judge granted preventive detention.

Earlier on Sunday, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-3) filed three cases against him. Badda Police Station Inspector (Operations) Yasin Gazi and Deputy Drug Inspector Jane Alam Dulal have been detained for a total of 21 days in seven days.

Golden Monir, who was transferred to the RAB-3 office after his arrest last Saturday (November 21), was turned over to the Badda police.

Badda Police Officer in Charge (CO) Parvez Islam said the RAB had brought three separate cases against Golden Monir under the Special Powers Act, the Narcotics Control Act and the Gun Act.

Golden Monir was arrested at his home in the Badda area of ​​the capital on Saturday morning. At that time, 800 gold jewelery, foreign pistols, liquor, a huge foreign currency from 10 countries and cash of one crore and nine lakh rupees were seized from his home.

Two unlicensed luxury cars were also seized from his home. The market value of each of them is approximately three million rupees. Additionally, three other unlicensed luxury cars called ‘Auto Car Selection’ were seized from its auto showroom.

According to RAB, Golden Monir owns more than two hundred parcels and flats in and around Dhaka. With the collusion of some RAJUK officials, he seized numerous plots through forgery. However, initially Monir supported 30 parcels and flats.

The operation was carried out on the basis of specific complaints after a long search with the help of an intelligence agency. Previously, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and RAJUK had a case against Golden Monir. Monir is basically a hundi merchant and a gold smuggler. From this, Monir became known as ‘Golden Monir’.
