Globe Biotech Pharmaceuticals has canceled its contract with ICDDR, Bir for the human trial of the corona vaccine. Instead of ICDDR, Bir, they’re going to do a human test with CRO Bangladesh. Globe Biotech Limited’s Quality and Regulatory Operations Manager, Dr, told the Bengali Tribune on Tuesday (December 1). Mohammad Mohiuddin. He said that on Monday (November 30), ICDDR, BK had written a letter informing them not to work with them.
If you want to know why the contract was canceled. Mohammad Mohiuddin said that Globe signed an agreement with ICDDR, Bir on October 14. They will serve as the CRO (Contact Research Person) for Globe Biotech’s Vaccine Bancovid. Even before that, they had been working unofficially since August 29. The terms of the agreement with us were that they would start the clinical trial within 30 days. But ICDDR, BA hasn’t started work on the issue even after about a month and a half after the agreement was signed.
“We have done everything from making the protocol, but so far nothing has advanced, while there have been about nine meetings in the last three months,” he said. We understand that since they are managed in collaboration with foreign companies, they will first look out for the interests of those who manage the fund. At the same time, the ICDDR has no experience in the first and second phases (phase one and two) of BIR clinical trials. Previously, they did all the rehearsals for the third stage. The recent agreement with China’s Sinovac was also in the third phase. And in various conversations with them, we have found that they are not the right CRO for our test. So we are no longer waiting for you, you have been informed in your letter.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of Health Abdul Mannan and the Director General of the Department of Health, Prof. Dr. Abul Basar Mohammad Khurshid Alam.
In this regard, Dr. Mohammad Mohiuddin said that the secretary of health there told us that if we want a new CRO through the IEDCR, we also have the opportunity to work with other CROs. On the advice of IEDCR, we have been asked to contact those who can test this vaccine in Bangladesh.
However, Globe Biotech CRO Bangladesh has already contacted a company in this regard. Mohammad Mohiuddin said that CRO Bangladesh has decided in principle that they want to test our vaccine. With the advice of IDCR, we look forward to starting our clinical trial as soon as possible, said Dr. Mohammad Mohiuddin.
Meanwhile, Health Secretary Abdul Mannan has suggested changing Bancovid’s name to Globe Biotech vaccine. He also proposed naming the vaccine ‘Bangavax’ instead of Bancovid. Muhammad.
He said that the Secretary of Health said they were in contact with several companies to vaccinate the people of the country. With the amount of vaccines that will come from outside the country, it will not be possible to vaccinate all at once. So if there is a native vaccine, then it can be used for the country, for the people of the country. And for this the government will provide all kinds of cooperation.
Authorities at ICDDR, B declined to comment when asked about the cancellation of the contract.
