The death toll in a train and bus collision in Joypurhat has risen to 12. 3 more people were injured in this incident. All the victims were bus passengers. Rail communication with the north has been cut across the country since the accident. The gate to the railway crossing was open at the time of the accident and the porter in question was reportedly asleep.

According to eyewitnesses, the police and the Joypurhat Fire Service, a passenger bus collided with a Rajshahi-bound Uttara Express train leaving Parbatipur at the Puranapail railway gate at 8:55 am today. The Joypurhat bound bus was twisted and caught by the train about 500 meters from the railway. At least 10 people died and another 5 were injured at the scene. The wounded were taken to Joypurhat District Modern Hospital and then to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman University Medical Hospital (SHJMEC), killing two more. At present, three seriously injured people have been admitted to the Shajimek hospital in Bogra.

Two of the dead have been identified. They are Sarwar Hossain, 35, son of Altaf Hossain from the village of Atul in Panchbibi upazila, and his younger brother Arifuzzaman Rabbi, 25.

Deputy Commissioner. Shariful Islam said that the tragic accident happened at the gate of the Puranapail railway because Getman did not do his duty. He said the bodies of the deceased have been sent to the morgue. He also said that the district administration would bear the full cost, including burial work.

Rail communication with the western part of the country has been closed since the accident. Rescue trains arrived at the scene to normalize rail communication. Attempts are being made to remove the buses and trains involved in the accident. In addition to the Deputy Commissioner, Police Superintendent Mohammad Salam Kabir, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Milton Chandra Roy, and Zilla Parishad President Arifur Rahman Rocket visited the scene.

Joypurhat Fire Service Deputy Director Khandaker Chanaul Haque said 10 bodies had been recovered from the site of the collision with the train. And 5 people have been sent to the hospital. Two more died at Bogra Hospital.
