Activists against rape and oppression in Shahbagh, the capital, held a protest rally and sit-in for the fourth day on Thursday. A woman from Morelganj in Bagerhat joined the rally. The protesters have called a rally in Shahbag at 3pm on Friday. People from all walks of life are invited to attend.

According to the protesters, 22 organizations are in the movement under the slogan “Bangladesh Against Rape and Injustice”. Every day, new people join the movement in support of it. So far they have not been able to fix the spokesperson. Soon the movement will accelerate pinning its spokesman.

Visiting in front of the National Museum in Shahbag around 1pm yesterday, it was seen that a demonstration was taking place demanding exemplary punishment for oppressors and rapists. At that time, some students from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology joined the program with a banner. She came to join the movement knowing about the rape rally. Ishrat was saying: ‘I will come as long as the movement continues. Rapists must be brought to justice. In response to a question, he said: “We will continue the movement until justice is served.”

Shovon Rahman, publicity secretary for the Central Committee of the Socialist Student Front, told Kaler Kanth that they have started a movement to protest the incidents of rape and non-trial of these cases across the country. A general assembly has been called at 3pm on Friday. They are waiting for the participation of all kinds of people. In response to a question, he said: ‘The cost of our banners, posters and banners is raised through donations. Those of us in the movement are contributing as much as we can. This is happening. ‘ When asked how long the movement would last, he said: “It will last as long as the rapists are not brought to justice.” When asked if the government has pressured him so far, he said: “No, so far there is no pressure on us.”

On the other hand, yesterday morning an anti-violation of the human chain was held in front of the National Press Club at the initiative of the National Central Student Committee.

Meanwhile, cultural activists have demanded the death penalty for rapists at rallies and light demonstrations across the country to protest rape and violence against women. Bangladesh Pathnatak Parishad hosted the program in front of the Shilpakala Academy yesterday afternoon.
