The names of the 2021 Independence Medal winners have been announced. This time 9 eminent persons and one organization were awarded the medal. In the culture category, the playwright Ataur Rahman and the composer and lyricist Gazi Mazharul Anwar receive the Independence Prize. They receive this award in recognition of their glorious and meritorious contribution at the national level.

Today Sunday, the government released the list of nominees for the country’s highest civil honor in 2021. That is where their names were revealed. Apart from these two, seven outstanding people and one organization from the country are receiving the Independence Prize on this occasion.

Gazi Mazharul Anwar is a living legend in the world of Bengali music. He is the creator of some 20,000 songs. He is one of the best lyricists in Bengali music and also a film director and producer. One of the many timeless songs written by Gazi Mazharul Anwar is ‘Joy Bangla, Banglar Joy’. That song stood out as an inspirational song during our liberation war. The song ‘Joy Bangla, Banglar Joy’ was ranked 13th in the list of the 20 best Bangla songs of the century made by ‘BBC Bangla’.

On the other hand, Ataur Rahman is one of the leading figures in the post-independence dramatic movement in Bangladesh. Ataur Rahman, 69, has written, directed and acted for theater.

The other seven eminent persons nominated for the award are: AKM Bazlur Rahman, Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master, Brigadier General Khurshid Uddin Ahmed, Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu; Dr. science and technology. Munmoy Guha recruiter; Mahadev Saha in literature; Professor of Social Work. M Amjad Hossain and the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council for Research and Training. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will officially present the award.
