The defendant’s DNA samples were found to be similar to the defendant’s DNA samples in the rape case of the wife by tying the husband to the dormitory at MC College in Sylhet. Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) BM Ashraf Ullah Taher confirmed to the media that he received the DNA report on Sunday evening.
Two months after the incident, the defendant’s DNA report reached the investigator of the case. His participation coincided with the DNA report. However, it is not yet known how many of the DNA samples from the eight defendants were involved in the test.
BM Ashraf Ullah said the DNA report had reached the hands of Indranil Bhattacharya, an inspector and investigating officer at the Shahparan (Rah.) Police Station. The charge sheet will be filed in court very soon.
He added that even though two months have passed since the incident, it was not possible to issue a charge sheet as no DNA report was received. The charge sheet will be issued as soon as the DNA report is received and the details will be communicated to everyone.
Previously, DNA samples were collected from six people arrested in the case on October 1 and 3. After collecting samples in the DNA lab at the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital OCC Center, they were sent to the Dhaka lab. From there, the sample test report reaches the court first. The report was later turned over to the investigating officer on Sunday.
On September 25, around 8:15 pm, some BCL leaders and activists gang-raped a housewife in a private car on the street inside the dormitory of Sylhet MC College.
That same night, the victim’s husband filed a case with the Shahparan (Rah.) Police Station, accusing 6 people of the incident. In this case, 2-3 other people were made unknown. The defendants in the case are Tarekul Islam Tarek, son of Rafiqul Islam of Umednagar in Sunamganj Sadar Upazila, Shah Mahbubur Rahman Rony, son of Jahangir Miah of Bagunipara in Habiganj Sadar, Arjun Laskar, son of Kanu Laskar of Atgram in Zakiganj.
