Sylhet: Another defendant, Arjun Laskar, was arrested in Habiganj for gang raping his wife by tying up her husband in the MC College dorm.
On Sunday (September 27), a team of detectives arrested him from the Mantala area of Madhabpur upazila in Habiganj.
Habiganj’s Additional Police Superintendent Anwar Hossain confirmed the matter at 12 noon.
Arjun Lashkar is the son of Kanu Lashkar of Atgram in Zakiganj upazila of Sylhet.
Early in the morning, 26-year-old Chhatra League activist Saifur Rahman was arrested in Chhatak in Sunamganj. He was the son of Tahid Miah from Chandaipara village in Balaganj upazila de Sylhet and lived in the shelter on the fifth block of MC College.
According to police sources, Arjun fled to Madhabpur in Habiganj after the incident. There he was staying at the house of one of his relatives in the Mantala area. Detectives identified Arjun’s whereabouts using information technology and arrested him.
However, Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) Jyotirmoy Sarkar said that he did not know anything about Arjun’s arrest. Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, the Shapran Police Officer in Charge, was called more than once, but did not receive a call.
On Friday (September 25), six BCL leaders and activists allegedly raped a woman while her husband was detained in the MC College dormitory. Upon receiving the news, police rescued the couple from the bedroom at around 10:30 pm. Later, the victim was admitted to the OCC Center of the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
According to police and local sources, the newlyweds went to MC College in a private car on Friday afternoon. In the afternoon, six MC College BCL leaders and activists grabbed the husbands and took them to the dormitory and beat them first. He later gang raped his wife while holding her husband captive. Each of the BCL leaders lives in the dormitory. They are followers of the leader of the Awami League, Advocate Ranjit Sarkar Group, based in Tilagarh.
The victim’s husband filed a case (21 (9) 2020) at the city’s Shahparan Police Station on Saturday (September 26) morning, naming six people and charging two-thirds of the unidentified people . The accused are Saifur Rahman (26), Tarekul Islam Tarek (26), Shah Mohammad. Mahbubur Rahman Rony (25), Arjun Laskar (25), Rabiul Islam (25) and Mahfuzur Rahman Masum (25).
Shahporan (SI) Police Deputy Inspector Milton Sarkar also brought another case in connection with the seizure of firearms and Ramda, knives and GI tubes from Saifur Rahman’s room. The case was brought against Saifur Rahman.
