Forensic antigen testing will begin next Saturday in the country, said Mirzadi Sebrina Flora, additional director general of the health department. He told Prothom Alo on Thursday afternoon that antigen testing is beginning in 10 districts of the country. Antigens will only be tested in suspected corona patients with symptoms. The government has yet to set a fee for antigen testing.

The antigen test will be done at the Sadar District Hospital. The 10 districts where antigen testing will begin on Saturday are Gaibandha, Panchagarh, Joypurhat, Jessore, Meherpur, Brahmanbaria, Patuakhali, Munshiganj, Madaripur and Sylhet. The presence of coronavirus in the body can be confirmed by antigen testing. This test can be done in 15 to 30 minutes.

Mirzadi Sebrina, additional director general of the health department, said staff training for antigen-based testing has been completed. Standard kits for antigen testing have been brought in. Antigen testing will begin in all districts in phases. Antigen testing will not be performed on suspected asymptomatic patients.

The lack of corona identification tests in the country has been criticized from the beginning.

Public health experts say the number of tests will increase if the antigen test is introduced for quick and easy results. It will also assist in the identification of patients with corona, epidemiological planning and other policies.
