France has asked Middle Eastern countries to refrain from boycotting French products. The call was made in a statement issued by the French Foreign Ministry on Sunday. The Reuters news agency reported this news in a report.
The statement said there had been calls for a boycott of French products, especially French food, in various places in recent times. Furthermore, protests are being called against France for publishing cartoons of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).
The French Foreign Ministry says the call for a boycott is unfounded and must be stopped immediately. At the same time, all kinds of attacks against our country, which are being carried out by extremists, must be stopped.
Meanwhile, various Arab trade associations have announced a boycott of French products in protest of recent comments by French President Emmanuel Macron on Islam and the Prophet Muhammad.
Earlier this month, Macron’s denunciation of Islam in the name of fighting “Islamist separatism” sparked a nationwide boycott of French products.
Macron has described Islam as a religion of “crisis” throughout the world. Macron also said that the exhibition of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will not stop. He was speaking at a ceremony to pay tribute to French teacher Samuel Patti, who was assassinated for showing a controversial cartoon about the Prophet Muhammad.
Meanwhile, a group on social media has called for a boycott of French products from supermarkets in Arab countries and Turkey.
The president and members of the board of directors of the Al-Naim Cooperative Society in Kuwait have decided to boycott all French products and remove them from supermarkets. The Dahiyat al-Thuhr Association has taken the same step, saying: “Based on Macron’s position and his support for the offensive cartoons against our beloved Prophet (s), we have decided to remove all French products from the market.”
In Qatar, Wazbah Dairy announced a boycott of French products and promised to offer alternatives. Al-Mira Consumer Goods, a Qatari joint stock company, announced on Twitter: “We have immediately removed French products from our shelves until further notice.”
The University of Qatar also participated in the campaign. In a statement on Twitter, the university said: “Any superstition against Islamic beliefs, sanctity and symbols is completely unacceptable, as this crime harms universal human values and the highest moral principles.”
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has described Macron’s comments as irresponsible, saying his goal is to spread a culture of hatred among the people.
