Fourteen people testified about UNO’s negligence

An investigation has been launched into the role of former Patgram officer Upazila Nirbahi (UN) Kamrun Nahar in the burning of Abu Yunus Mohammad Shahidunnabi Jewel, 50, in Burimari in Lalmonirhat’s Patgram upazila.

Thursday (March 25) at 11 am in the Burimari Union Parishad Lalmonirhat district administration auditorium. Abu Jafar started the investigation and finished it in the afternoon.

On the night of October 29 last year, Abu Yunus was accused of insulting the Holy Quran at the Burmeri Central Jame Mosque. A man named Shahidunnabi Jewel was beaten to death and his body was cremated in public. Former UNO Cameron Nahar was present at the scene at the time of the incident. On the same day, during the investigation into the negligence and incompetence of UNO Cameron Nahar, 14 eyewitnesses who were present on the day of the incident testified. Also present were Patgram Officer Upazila Nirbahi (UN) Ram Krishna Barman and Upazila (Land) Deputy Commissioner Rubel Rana.

Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner. Abu Zafar told reporters at the end of the investigation that it was an administrative investigation. Statements have been taken from those who were at the scene at the time and from those who worked there, including the UN. The report of the information obtained by the investigation will be sent to the authorities.

Saiful Alam, the deceased’s cousin, Patgram (SI) Police Station Deputy Inspector Shahjahan Ali and Burimari Union Parishad President Abu Saeed Newaz Nishat filed three separate cases on October 31 last year for beating and burning Jewel to death in Burimari. So far, the police have arrested 48 people in the three cases after identifying the defendants after the video footage and investigation.
