A court in Ontario sentenced Minhaj Zaman, a young man of Bangladeshi descent living in Canada, to life in prison for strangling four members of his family, including his parents.

Newmarket Superior Court Justin Michelle Fuerst announced the verdict on Friday. At the same time, Minhaj’s probation has been revoked for the next 40 years. Minhaj Zaman will be 84 when he gets a chance to get out of jail on parole.

On July 26 last year, Minhaj cut the throat of his father Moniruzzaman, his mother Mumtaz Begum, his sister Melissa Zaman and his grandmother Firoza Begum, who was visiting from Bangladesh. He pleaded guilty in court on September 24.

Minhaj, who is stationed at a correctional facility in Lindsay, Ontario, listens to the verdict on video. Canadian media reported that he did not respond when the verdict was announced and did not respond.

In announcing the verdict, the judge said that there could be no more cruel act than cutting the life of a person by slitting the throat. Minhaj Zaman did this heinous act four times in a few hours.

Minhaj admitted that he did not inform his relatives after he dropped out of college. Speaking of going to college, he spent time at the mall, going back to the gym. But he decided to kill them when the situation became clear. In a statement to the court, Minhaj said that he had killed members of his family when they tried to find out which university he was not attending. Sources: Global News, CBC News, New Country.
