The tragic situation took place on Monday (September 28) at the official residence of the Attorney General on Bailey Road in the capital. At that moment, Binta Mahbub began to pray for her husband.
At around 10:35 a.m., a frozen vehicle carrying Mahbubey Alam’s body left his home and headed for the Supreme Court. At that moment, Mahbubey Alam’s wife ran to the car. She repeatedly grabbed the car and kept apologizing. Later, his family members arrived and dragged him home.
The police moved slowly with the hearse. Mahbubey Alam’s wife then left her relatives and started running towards the hearse again. The relatives took him away and asked for the blessings of the Attorney General’s soul.
Funeral prayers for Attorney General Mahbubey Alam were held at the Supreme Court premises on Monday (September 26) at 11:35 a.m. Imam Abu Saleh introduced the Jame Mosque to the Supreme Court. Salim Ullah led the janaza. His body was taken to the Supreme Court premises at 10:41 am.
The janaza was attended by the Chief Justice, Supreme Court Appellate Division justices, High Court justices and Cabinet members, Supreme Court attorneys, including the Mayor of Dhaka South.
Relatives of the attorney general said he was buried in the Mirpur intellectual cemetery after Janaza on the premises of the Supreme Court.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam died at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka at 6.25pm on Sunday (September 26) after contracting the coronavirus. Prominent people, including the president and prime minister, mourned his death.
