On Thursday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim granted them bail.

Those granted bail along with writer Anisul Haque are: Kishore Alo, Senior Assistant Editor Mahitul Alam, Head of Events and Activation for Prothom Alo, Kabir Bakul, Executive Shah Paran Tushar, and Executive Shubhashish Pramanik.

Attorneys Ehsanul Haque Samaji, Prashant Karmakar, and Aminul Gani Tito appeared in court to request bail.

The same judge ordered the seizure of his property on Wednesday.

Among the ten defendants in the case, five, including Prothom Alo’s editor Matiur Rahman, are out on bail.

Abrar Rahat, a ninth-grade student, was electrocuted on November 1 last year at a function on the campus of Dhaka Residential Model College in Mohammadpur. Doctors pronounced him dead after he was taken to Universal Medical College Hospital in Mohakhali.

Mohammadpur Police Station Inspector (Investigation), Abdul Alim, presented the investigation report to the court on 18 January. A total of ten people were charged there with “evidence of negligence” by the Kishore Alo authorities behind Naimul Abrar’s death.

Following the report, Judge Kaysarul Islam of the Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrates Court issued an arrest warrant for the defendants on the same day.

Then, on January 20 of this year, Matiur Rahman obtained a four-week advance bond from the High Court. At the end of the bail period, according to the rules, it was handed over to the court of first instance and when he applied for bail again, the Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Kaisarul Islam granted it.

Among the defendants in the case, Anisul Haque, Mahitul Alam, Kabir Bakul, Tushar and Shubhashish also requested advance bond in High Court along with Matiur Rahman at the time. However, the High Court did not grant them bail because there was no name on the case statement and ordered them not to harass or arrest them until charges were filed.
