Sylhet: A terrible fire broke out at a 120 MW power plant in Kumargaon, outside the town of Sylhet. The electricity supply in Sylhet has been cut off due to the fire. Although the fire was controlled, the power supply was still not normal.
The fire broke out around 11 a.m. on Tuesday (November 18). Upon receiving the news, 6 fire brigade units tried for an hour and controlled the fire. But after the fire, all of Sylhet was without power. Stakeholders cannot say when the power supply will be normal.
The energy department informed city residents that all power was cut off due to the fire.
Mokammel Hossain, Chief Engineer at Sylhet’s Power Distribution and Development Department, told banglanews: “Two transformers in the grid caught fire. Two of the transformers burned out. In this situation, the electricity supply in Sylhet was cut off. ‘
However, Mokammel Hossain could not say anything about when the power supply will be restored. He said that work was underway to guarantee power supply.
The power supply was cut until the report was written at 3.30 pm.
According to locals, the fire broke out in the power grid transformer around 11:30 am. This caused panic among the people around the substation. Upon receiving the news, 6 fire brigade units and people from the energy department controlled the fire after an effort of approximately one hour.
Regarding the fire, the Deputy Deputy Director of the Fire Service, Sylhet Shawkat Ali Joardar, further said: “Our 6 units have worked to control the fire. Now the fire is completely controlled. However, the cause of the fire cannot be said without an investigation. Also, it is not possible to calculate the amount of damage at this time. ‘
