Potato prices have finally come down. The price of old potatoes has dropped by 10 rupees per kg to 35 rupees per kg according to the government. Traders said the price has dropped as the supply of new potatoes to the market has increased.
Meanwhile, winter vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, beans, radish and turnip are supplied at a lower price in the capital markets for three weeks. Most vegetables are now at Rs 30 per kg. Although the price of vegetables has fallen, the price of eggs has risen again. The price of dozens of eggs has risen Tk 5 in a week.
On Friday (December 11), several markets in the capital were visited, selling old potatoes at 35-40 rupees per kg, up from 45-50 rupees last week. And new potatoes sell for between Rs 40-45 / kg, which was Rs 50 last week.
Previously, the government fixed the price of potatoes twice in September and October due to the abnormal increase in the price of potatoes. The latest retail price for potatoes was set at Tk 35 per kg on 8 October. However, the government directive has not been seen on the market in the last month. However, with the arrival of new potatoes on the market, the price has finally dropped.
Regarding the price of potatoes, Raisuddin, a Karwanbazar trader, said that the supply of new potatoes has increased in the market. The size is also quite good. As a result, the trend of buyers towards new potatoes has increased. Because of this, the price of old potatoes has dropped.
He said that new potatoes are now sold at Rs 40 per kg. A few days ago I sold a small potato for 100 rupees per kg. We expect the price of potatoes to drop even further in a few days.
The price of eggs has risen while the price of potatoes has fallen. Dozens of eggs are sold at Rs 90-95, an increase of Rs 5 per dozen in one week.
Businessman Malibagh Hajipara said about the rising egg prices. Jahangir said that the supply of eggs in the market has decreased somewhat. Because of this, the price has gone up. However, the eggs are still available at lower prices than us.
Meanwhile, the vegetable market has been seen to sell between Rs 20-30 per kg of beans like last week. Cauliflower and cabbage pieces sell for Rs 20-30. Radish is available at Rs 10-15 per kg. The large pumpkin is available for 40 rupees. Carrots are sold for Rs 40-50 / kg.
In addition, eggplant is sold at Rs 30-40 per kg, sugar cane at Rs 40-50 per kg, potato at Rs 40-50 per kg, and patal at Rs 30-40 per kg.
Although the prices of most vegetables have dropped, ripe tomatoes and barbati are still sold at high prices. Ripe tomatoes sell for Rs 80-100 per kg, which was Rs 100-120 last week. And the barbecue is sold at Rs 70 or 80 per kg like last week.
Meanwhile, the price of onion has dropped even though there is no complete relief. Domestic onions are sold at between Rs 50-60 per kg, which was Rs 60-75 last week. Imported onions are available in 30 to 40 kg like last week. A poya (250 grams) of green chilies sells for Rs 20-30 like last week.
Karwanbazar merchant said about the price of vegetables. Alamin Bepari said that now there is no shortage of winter vegetables on the market. So that buyers can buy all kinds of vegetables at reduced prices. A sudden spike in vegetable prices is less likely. Instead, the prices of some vegetables will drop even further. In fact, in the market for fresh ripe tomatoes, the price of all kinds of vegetables will drop one more point.
Rampura businessman Alam Sheikh said there were no further complaints about the price of vegetables. Those who used to buy a bean poya now buy kg kg of bean. New carrots have started to hit the market. Ripe tomatoes will come after a few days. Then 100 rupees of ripe tomatoes will be available at 20 rupees.
