Legal notices have been sent requesting a ban on uttering the word “confession” in wedding scenes in movies and dramas. Notice has been sent to the Secretary of Information, Law and Religion and the Bangladesh Board of Film Censors (BFCB).

Lawyer of the Supreme Court. Mahmudul Hasan sent the notice on Thursday. Within three days of receiving the notification, you have been requested to take the necessary steps to prohibit the pronunciation of the word “Kabul”. Otherwise, a petition for an injunction will be filed in Superior Court, the notice said.

According to the notice, according to Section 2 of the Muslim Law of 1973, which is prevalent in Bangladesh, Muslim law (Shariat) will be applicable to those parties if they are Muslim in the case of marriage, divorce, maintenance, dowry, etc. Therefore, Muslim women and men will be considered husband and wife only if they comply with the above formalities. And according to section 3 of the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Law (Registration Law 1974), marriage between Muslim men and women will be in accordance with Muslim law. According to article 5 of the law, the marriage must be registered within a maximum period of 30 days. However, if the marriage registrar (qazi) is present at the marriage, he will register the marriage at the time of the marriage ceremony. Also, if someone does not register the marriage, it will be a punishable offense.

The notice said that marriage and marriage registration are two separate issues. Marriages between Muslim men and women are carried out in accordance with Muslim law (Shariat). On the other hand, registration must be carried out within a maximum period of 30 days from the celebration of the marriage in accordance with the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Law (Registration Law 1974). In this case, even if the marriage is not registered, the marriage will be valid according to Muslim law.

In various Bangladeshi movies and dramas, Muslim actors and actresses pronounce the word “accept” in wedding scenes. Because of this, according to said Muslim law (Shariat), actors and actresses will be considered husband and wife. This marriage cannot be denied on the grounds of acting here. That is why it is necessary to stop saying the word ‘accept’ in wedding scenes in movies or dramas.
