‘Ferry closed at night to ensure the safety of the Padma Bridge and avoid accidents’

Minister of State for Maritime Transport Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury in TungiparaThe Minister of State for Maritime Transport, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, said: “Work is underway on the Padma Bridge on the Padma River above the current. The span will not be installed on the Padma Bridge due to the current. The ferries get stuck. It is feared that normal ferry service at night could lead to serious accidents. The government does not want the Padma Bridge to be interrupted or damaged due to whims. That is why the ferry service has been stopped since night to ensure the safety of the Padma Bridge and avoid accidents.

He said this in response to several questions from journalists after paying tribute at the grave of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara on Saturday (August 29).

Previously, he paid tribute to the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by laying a wreath at his mausoleum. Later, he participated in the recitation of Fateha and a special munajat seeking the forgiveness of the souls of the martyred members of Bangabandhu and their family.

The President of the Port of Mongla, Rear Admiral M. Shahjahan, President of BIWTC Khwaja Mia, President of BIWTA, Commodore Golam Sadeq, Managing Director of the Department of Shipping Commodore Abu Zafar. Jalaluddin, Gopalganj District Awami League President and District Council President, Chowdhury Emdadul Haque, General Secretary Mahbub Ali Khan, Tungipara Upazila Awami League President, Abul Bashar Khair, General Secretary. In attendance were Babul Sheikh, Tungipara Municipality Mayor Sheikh Ahmed Hossain Mirza, Upazila President Solaiman Biswas, and other party leaders and workers.

Later, the minister of state visited the Patgati launch ghat in memory of Bangabandhu.
