The murder case of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad will complete a year on Tuesday. Fugitive three defendants

On November 18, 2019, the court issued arrest warrants for the four fugitives in the case. Subsequently, on December 3 of the same year, the court ordered the confiscation of his property. Defendant fugitive Morshed Amartya Islam surrendered to court on January 12. Later, the court ordered that he be sent to jail. So far, three defendants in the case are on the run. They are Muhammad Morshed-uz-Zaman Mandal alias Jisan, a student of the 16th group of the EE Department, Ehteshamul Rabbi Tanim, a student of the 17th group of the Department of Civil Engineering and Mujtaba Rafid, a student of the 16th group of the Engineering Department Chemistry.

Eight of the defendants in the case have made confessional statements in court. They are Ifti Mosharraf Sakal, Meftahul Islam Zion, Anik Sarkar, Mujahidur Rahman, Mehedi Hasan Robin, Khandaker Tabakhkharul Islam Tanvir, Moniruzzaman Monir and ASM Nazmus Sadat.

The court filed charges in the case on September 15. A total of 60 people have been called as witnesses in the case. Testimony in the case will continue from yesterday through October 26. On November 13 last year, DB Wahiduzzaman inspector, the investigating officer on the case, filed a charge sheet at the Main Metropolitan Magistrates Court in Dhaka. He charged 25 defendants on the charge sheet.

Abrar Fahad was found unconscious on the second floor of BUET’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall on the night of October 8, 2019. He was later taken to the Dhaka Medical College (DMC) hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty. Abrar’s father, Barkat Ullah, filed a murder case with the Chawkbazar police station for the incident.

BUET-appointed lawyer Ehesanul Haque Samaji said: “Eight defendants have given confessional statements in the case, all of whom have been implicated in the murder.” In addition, there are digital documents, video footage and oral documents, which will serve as a logical reason for the maximum punishment of the accused.
