A father and son on a motorcycle were killed when a truck struck them in Niamatpur in Naogaon. Another motorcyclist was injured in the accident. The accident took place on the Niamatpur-Dhansura regional highway at the Jhaljhalia junction of upazila around 11:30 am on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Baba Azad Ali, 45, and his son Shahadat Hossain, 18. They are residents of the village of Upazila in Jhaljhalia. The wounded man was identified as Sohan Hossain, 18. He is the son of Mostaq Ahmed from the same village. He is currently in treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Citing locals, the Niamatpur Police Station police said three people were going to Niamatpur Upazila Sadar from Jhaljhalia on a motorcycle around 11:30 pm today. Upon reaching the Jhaljhalia junction of the Niamatpur-Dhansura highway, a truck carrying rice from the opposite direction smashed the motorcycle. Azad Ali was killed on the spot. The locals rescued the other two injured motorcyclists and took them to the Niamatpur Upazila Health Complex. When their condition deteriorated, they were transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Shahadat died around 3.30 p.m. while undergoing treatment there.
The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Niamatpur Police Station, Humayun Kabir, confirmed the news of the death of father and son in the accident.
