Maqbool Hossain (50) has grown potatoes with three dirt bighas this time. After three weeks you will be able to pick potatoes from the field. Maqbool hopes to make a profit, as the price of potatoes is good on the market. Hope this will make up for last year’s loss.
Maqbul Hossain’s house is in the Kharibari area of the Auliapur Union of Dinajpur Sadar upazila. Like him, many upazila farmers are busy tending potatoes. Visiting the Dakshin Kotwali, Mohabbatpur, Kharibari, Ghughudanga and Patharghata areas of upazila last Tuesday, it was seen that there were vast potato fields along the banks of the Punarbhaba River. Some are weeding, others are spraying pesticides. Someone is busy giving soil at the base of the potato plant.
Farmer Maqbool Hossain said he took 22,000 rupees for bigha. The total cost, including the plow, seeds, fertilizers and pesticides, is Rs 61,900 per bigha. If the weather is favorable, 105-110 maunds of potatoes will be available per bigha. The last time he received around 600 rupees per ounce. In today’s market, old potatoes sell for Rs 1,400 to Rs 1,500 per ounce. The price of new potatoes will be higher.
Maqbool said: ‘In one year, the land has been taken away. When the potato is harvested, the corn (corn) is planted, if the potato lodge is made, the corn is raised. It will be beneficial to be able to harvest three crops of potato, corn and sack.
