Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, one of Iran’s nuclear scientists, was shot dead with a remote-controlled machine gun. The machine gun was placed inside a flagged vehicle parked on the side of the road. Later it also exploded. This was reported by Mail Online citing internal Iranian sources.

Iran’s semi-official news agency Fars quoted the Mail Online as saying that at least three shots had been fired. The car was located on the side of the road.

Meanwhile, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was buried Monday at Imamzada Saleh Mazar’s facility in the capital, Tehran. Only members of his family and armed forces commanders were able to attend the funeral to avoid the crowds due to Corona.

Fakhrizadeh was traveling in an armored vehicle last Friday, Fars reported. At that time, three vehicles of the security forces were compromised for their safety. Then there is the sound of something hitting a car. Then he went out to see what had happened. They shot him shortly after getting out of the car with a remote control weapon. The shots were fired from a Nissan car parked on the side of the road.

He said he was shot 150 meters from Fakhrijadeh’s car. They shot him at least three times. His bodyguard was also shot. They were attacked for about three minutes.

Fakhrizadeh’s body was removed by security guards before the parked car exploded.

Investigators claim to have identified the owner of the Nissan vehicle, but that he left the country on Sunday, two days after the attack.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed to guarantee maximum punishment for the murder of one of Iran’s nuclear scientists and his mastermind. He said that Fakhrizadeh had given his life for the country.

Although Israel has been blamed for Fakhri’s death, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has declined to comment.

On Monday, Israeli intelligence minister Eli Cohen told Radio 103 FM that he did not know who was responsible.
